Charlotte, Wren, or Elizabeth?

I have been having such trouble landing on one name! I loved [name]Wren[/name], but I’ve gotten such negative feedback, especially from my husband, dubbing it a “boys” name. I do love the name [name]Charlotte[/name], but I’m not sure if it has enough character. I love the name [name]Elizabeth[/name]. If I were to choose [name]Elizabeth[/name], her nickname would most likely be [name]Elle[/name], and we would probably call her that most often.
My friend said I needed a focus group to settle on one name, so I’d love to know your opinions on which name you prefer and why. Thank you!

I love the [name]Elizabeth[/name] the most, but [name]Elle[/name] is my least favorite nickname! [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name] type names and nicknames are very overused and overly popular right now. [name]Elizabeth[/name] has so many great nicknames, it would be a shame to use something so trendy and boring. [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Libby[/name] and etc are so much more interesting.

[name]Charlotte[/name] is a lovely name and it has a lot of character and history. It is common, but classic and you can’t really go wrong with it.

I love bird names, but [name]Wren[/name] isn’t my favorite. When I was growing up, [name]Ren[/name]ée was a super popular girls’ name and they all went by [name]Ren[/name]. It feels somewhat dated to me. It is still likeable and feminine in my opinion. I am just bored with it. I much prefer [name]Sparrow[/name], [name]Lark[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name], [name]Raven[/name], [name]Robin[/name], and [name]Starling[/name].

I’m afraid I agree with uselesskitty about [name]Elle[/name] as a nickname for [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]One[/name] of the great virtues of [name]Elizabeth[/name], which is otherwise very traditional, is the wide variety of nicknames possible.

[name]Charlotte[/name] to me is lovely. I’d pick that one. Yes, it seems like it’s getting more popular. But it’s classic, feminine without being over-the-top frilly, smart and spunky but also cute and cuddly.

[name]Wren[/name] I don’t like. Sorry.

[name]Charlotte[/name] - I am falling out of love with this with repetition. A lovely name but feels trendy now.
[name]Wren[/name] - A beautiful, feminine name! Unusual but not odd.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - Elegant and perennial! Lots of nickname possibilities as well. [name]Elle[/name] is sweet.

I think [name]Wren[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Wren[/name] would be lovely!

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are beautiful classic names, while for me, [name]Wren[/name] just isn’t.

What do you think of [name]Catherine[/name], with a nn of [name]Wren[/name], or even better Renna? I love how unexpected it is but she would still have a classic name to fall back on. [name]Catherine[/name] is more in line with the style of [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name].

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Wren[/name] would be lovely! I think [name]Wren[/name] works better in the middle spot. It doesn’t have the depth and history of the other two classic gems.

I see the appeal with [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but they both feel too familiar to me. [name]Wren[/name], on the other hand, is unique and charming. I love it! If your husband really does not like it though, that is definitely a concern. Have you also considered [name]Fern[/name] and Wrenna? Also, if you love [name]Wren[/name] but want a name with more history what about [name]Florence[/name] with the nn [name]Ren[/name]?

I hope that helps!

[name]EDIT[/name]: Ooh, and I just noticed dindlee’s idea of [name]Catherine[/name] nn [name]Wren[/name]. That is genious!

I agree you can’t go wrong with either of [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] whereas [name]Wren[/name] will date so quickly! I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Wren[/name] I think. However using [name]Catherine[/name] or [name]Florence[/name] with nn wren would be a a great compromise!

I like [name]Wren[/name] quite a bit, but husbands can be hard to convince. I agree that another beautiful avian name could be a substitute, especially [name]Lark[/name] or [name]Paloma[/name].

Of the other two, I prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] over [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I love the wide range of nicknames [name]Elizabeth[/name] offers, so if you see yourself using nicknames, I’d go with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I see what uselesskitty means about [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name] nicnakes being popular, but there isn’t much you can do about that, and if your daughter feels like she wants to separate herself when she’s older, she’ll probably decide that herself. [name]One[/name] of my best friends in high school was a [name]Jenifer[/name] (one N!) and insisted on going by her last name, while the 15 other Jennifers in our class all went by [name]Jenny[/name]/[name]Jen[/name]/[name]Jenna[/name]. She might decide to be [name]Tibby[/name] one day and you won’t be able to stop it!

I’d go with [name]Elizabeth[/name] with [name]Wren[/name] perhaps as the middle name. I don’t like [name]Charlotte[/name] at all, though the nn [name]Lottie[/name] is cute. I really like the suggestion [name]Catherine[/name] nn [name]Wren[/name]! That’s got to be my favourite.

[name]Wren[/name] has the primary association of ‘boil or mark’ for me rather than the bird, sorry but I just can’t shake it.

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] are both stunning.

I love [name]Elizabeth[/name] for being sophisticated and down-to-earth at the same time, for the literary and historical connections, and for being the most classic of classic names. [name]Charlotte[/name] is beautiful and regal as well, and I love it but not as much as [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Wren[/name] is cute but doesn’t have the same weight or versatility. I agree with suggestions of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Wren[/name]- and what about [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]?

I love the name [name]Charlotte[/name]!

[name]Elizabeth[/name], I think, is the most commonly used amongst the three, and [name]Charlotte[/name] has great characteristic.

Meaning ‘[name]Free[/name] [name]Man[/name]’, it’s also the name of some of the world’s most famous people: [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rae[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Perkins[/name] [name]Gilman[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] Hawkins [name]Brown[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] E. [name]Ray[/name]. [name]Charlotte[/name] Forten… [name]Charlotte[/name] Cantilini, whom was portrayed in character by [name]Jennifer[/name] Lopez in ‘Monster-in-[name]Law[/name]’

And my favorite bit of the name [name]Charlotte[/name] is the nickname ‘[name]Charlie[/name]’. I’ve always wanted a boy-girl name and the closest I got was a nickname as ‘[name]Dennis[/name]’ or ‘[name]Denny[/name]’; which I why I’d also ship [name]Wren[/name].

I still don’t understand this O_o How do you get Wren (rehn) from Catherine (kath-rin)? The sounds aren’t compatible and the ‘w’ is nowhere to be seen.

Hmm your friend is completely right if you have comments from strangers it’ll most likely help whittle down choices…

I’m a classic girl, I love classic names. So because of this I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] over [name]Wren[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a really elegant, and regal sounding. I love the whole vibe of [name]Elizabeth[/name] she’s an regal, sophisticated choice. I also love the range of nicknames associated with [name]Elizabeth[/name] such as [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Lisa[/name], [name]Lizzie[/name], [name]Betsy[/name] and [name]Betty[/name]. I also love [name]Elle[/name]. Yet I do prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] over [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] sounds a lot softer, has a prettier vibe and feels really elegant. I also love the nickname [name]Lottie[/name] for [name]Charlotte[/name]. I’m a major fan of [name]Charlotte[/name] she’s on my forever changing favourite name list at the moment. So yes I do prefer [name]Charlotte[/name]! I think [name]Wren[/name] could work as a really spunky middle name. I think [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Wren[/name] sounds lovely.

I love [name]Charlotte[/name]! I think its so beautiful, elegant and charming!
But I do also love the nickname [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]. Its so beautiful. Yet, [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a little too old fashion for my taste. (Plus I had a bad involvement with one.)

I would go with [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Elisabeth[/name]. If your husband doesn’t like [name]Wren[/name] you should take it off the list and if you have doubts on [name]Charlotte[/name] I don’t think it’s a safe bet to go with.

I love [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I agree that [name]Wren[/name] would be great in the middle.

Och, I love all three!

I honestly love the idea of [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Wren[/name], [name]Wren[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], or [name]Wren[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] (especially [name]Wren[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]!). [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] have loads of wonderful literary charm for me, and I just love the natural, sweet-but-understated feel of [name]Wren[/name], the idea of a pretty little bird.

[name]Elizabeth[/name] by far.

I agree with uselesskitty,[name]Elle[/name] is so… Meh. There are so many great nicknames for [name]Elizabeth[/name]- [name]Betty[/name], [name]Bessie[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Libby[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], none strike your fancy? If you do go with [name]Elle[/name], why not [name]Ellie[/name]? It gives [name]Elle[/name] a little more life. I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is beautiful but it hasn’t stood the test of time the way [name]Elizabeth[/name] has. [name]Wren[/name], to me, is all male.
