charlotte's little sis will be called....?

hello berries! i need some help finding a GREAT name, and you’re all highly respected in my yoga class!

so we have a four year old named charlotte lucy and she will be a big sister in two months and the baby needs a name! its a girl and she is beloved already… dad is from dublin and likes names that work in both ireland and america and mom (me!) prefers feminine, classic names… the middle name will be either elizabeth or margaret (both family names, as is lucy) but we are open to suggestions. thanks in advance!

so far, we like-
[name]Anais[/name] (but dad doesnt think americans can pronounce it correctly…)
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Rosie[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]

That is so funny! The minute I saw your post, I thought of [name]Margaret[/name]…turns out it’s a middle name for your new baby girl to be!

With that being said, I love both [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I vastly prefer [name]Margaret[/name] because she’s such an underrated classic! Everyone and their aunt is named [name]Elizabeth[/name] first or middle name, that I know of.

For a combination, I adore the thought of:

[name]Calla[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] - so classy and feminine and elegant!

I’ll suggest:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] - has a better flow than [name]Claire[/name] with [name]Margaret[/name], and is oh so lovely! Very vintage and spunky!

By the way, I love the name [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]!

Best,
garnet

From your list, I absolutely love [name]Iris[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] with [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]! Gorgeous! The rest of your list is nice, though I agree about [name]Anais[/name]-- it’ll never be pronounced correctly in the US. [name]Rosie[/name] is far too nicknamey to be used as a standalone name, especially with the elegant [name]Charlotte[/name]. But [name]Rose[/name] (or any other [name]Rose[/name] name) would be wonderful with [name]Charlotte[/name]? [name]Rose[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] would be my second choice after [name]Iris[/name]. [name]Willow[/name] also seems really insubstantial to me, especially with [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Calla[/name], [name]Claire[/name], and [name]Willa[/name] are all great names, but they don’t stand out as much as [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Rose[/name]. Other names:

[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] make great sisters! I’d use [name]Margaret[/name] over [name]Elizabeth[/name], just because God knows how many [name]Claire[/name] Elizabeths there are out there

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and…

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (like this suggestion!)
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

my own suggestions:

[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Primrose[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Rosie[/name])
[name]Tara[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Alison[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]

[name]Charlotte[/name] is one of my all time favorite names, and I think that if you choose a name with a similar classic and feminine feel, it would a gorgeous combination.

Favorites I’ve read so far:
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (I think it’s a fun bonus that [name]Iris[/name] looks like “Irish”)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] ([name]Clara[/name] also looks like [name]Ciara[/name], which seems [name]Iris[/name] according to the Internet)
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (beautiful!)
[name]Primrose[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (what a fun, beautiful way to get to [name]Rosie[/name])

Other first name ideas:
[name]Fiona[/name] (I just love a sibset of [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]!)
[name]Sabrina[/name] (Celtic name that brings both magic and [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn to mind)
[name]Violet[/name] or [name]Viola[/name] (if you like [name]Rose[/name]…)
[name]Guinevere[/name] or [name]Gwenyth[/name] or [name]Gwendolen[/name] (Welsh, so I’m taking some liberties here)
[name]Cordelia[/name] (also Celtic! And just think of the NNs: [name]Cora[/name], [name]Cory[/name], [name]Cordy[/name], [name]Dell[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Kelly[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Elia[/name], [name]Celia[/name], etc)

Variations on the names you posted initally (for which [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Calla[/name] would be excellent nicknames):
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Rosanna[/name] (I think this spelling takes the [name]Roseanne[/name] out of the equation completely)
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Rosette[/name] or [name]Rosetta[/name]
[name]Callista[/name]
[name]Calypso[/name]

And what if you considered [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] variations as a first name? I totally understand that it isn’t part of your naming pattern, but you could use an [name]Elizabeth[/name] variation with [name]Margaret[/name] as a middle or vice versa. The following names either derives from these two names or have similar letter combinations and I put my favorites in bold.

[name]Elizabeth[/name]:
[name]Elspeth[/name] (Scottish actually)
[name]Elsbeth[/name] (same)
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name] or [name]Elianna[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Elisheva[/name]
[name]Lisbeth[/name]
[name]Lisabeth[/name]
[name]Lilibeth[/name]
[name]Betsy[/name] (a lot of full names can also get you to this nn. My fav: [name]Beatrice[/name])
[name]Betty[/name] (same!)
Bethanna
Annabeth
[name]Annalise[/name]
and anything that ends in [name]Bel[/name], [name]Belle[/name], or [name]Bella[/name] ([name]Amabel[/name]/elle/ella, [name]Isabel[/name]/elle/ella, [name]Anabel[/name]/elle/ella, [name]Clarabel[/name]/elle/ella, etc)

[name]Margaret[/name]:
[name]Greta[/name] (my favorite variation)
[name]Gretchen[/name]
[name]Gretel[/name]
[name]Greer[/name] (not a fan personally, but it feels related)
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] or [name]Margo[/name] (ok my other favorite)
[name]Pearl[/name] (the Greek meaning of [name]Margaret[/name])
[name]Daisy[/name] ([name]Marguerite[/name] is “daisy” in French)
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Mara[/name] or [name]Mira[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name] (love! and can lend itself to [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name])
[name]Mirabelle[/name] (kind of a smoosh of [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] diminutives)
[name]Marybeth[/name] (same)
[name]Maryanne[/name]
[name]Marissa[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Marina[/name] or [name]Marnina[/name]
[name]Marmaduke[/name] (hah! [name]Just[/name] kidding)
[name]Michelle[/name] (adorable with [name]Charlotte[/name])

I love [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]!
I like a lot of the suggestions but I am going to throw out

[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

While I agree that there are many people with the middle name [name]Elizabeth[/name], I know just as many people with the middle name [name]Margaret[/name]. So don’t let that be an issue.

Good luck!

I like [name]Iris[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] from your list. But I think I like [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] more.

[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Emily[/name] (this may be a little too overused though!)
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Shauna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Saoirse[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Louise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
