Been trying to come up with a name for this character: she is 18 years old, red hair and green eyes, wants to be a musician but is struggling with how to get there… Also ends up getting caught between two potential love interests, sort of the bad-boy and the boy next door…
For the girl I really like Charys [name]Ilona[/name], not sure on surname though… I’m also still open to suggestions on her first/ middle name, but I would like it to be something beautiful and unique.
As for the boys, I have no idea what to name them really. The bad-boy type (although he’s not very bad) is from [name]Ireland[/name], has long hair and an earring, plays guitar… The other guy is a bit of a nerd, skinny, wears glasses, known the main character since kindergarten and now they’re roommates…
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!
I’m not familiar with either of your MC’s names, and both sound to me like they’d belong in a fantasy novel. I think for her first name a nice ‘I’ name would work, like [name]Iona[/name], [name]Iolanthe[/name], [name]Ianthe[/name], [name]Ismene[/name], [name]Ismay[/name], [name]Ione[/name], [name]Ivory[/name] or [name]Iris[/name]. Charys sounds very invented to me, and that’d distract me from the story, particularly if it’s in third-person and we’re hearing it every third word. If you’re committed to a name similar to Charys, at least try [name]Carys[/name], an established name. [name]Carys[/name] [name]Ione[/name] sounds much better than your current alternative.
For the bad-boy, I think a subtly Irish name would do the trick (nobody named [name]Aoibheann[/name] or [name]Tadhg[/name]). The first thing that popped in my head was [name]Cormac[/name]. It’s Irish, and has kind of a long-haired, guitar-playing, roguish feel. Other names on the list are [name]Liam[/name], [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Sean[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Conor[/name] and [name]Shane[/name].
For the nerd I thought something along the lines of [name]Simon[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Hugh[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]John[/name], [name]Laurence[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Leonard[/name], or [name]Christopher[/name].
Charys is just another spelling of the Greek name [name]Charis[/name], and I know a few people named Charys actually! It’s quite an old name…
[name]Ilona[/name] is also an old name, I think it’s Hungarian?
I apologize! I am familiar with [name]Charis[/name], but for some reason didn’t connect it with the variant spelling. I’d still considering changing [name]Ilona[/name], only because it’s very different stylistically then Charys/[name]Charis[/name] and two foreign names might confuse the reader a little bit.
What do you think about the boys’ names?

Thinking purely of flow… when I looked at [name]Charis[/name] [name]Ilona[/name] I said [name]Carys[/name] [name]Iona[/name] in my head, making it super Welsh/Scottish. That’s possibly because I saw the word ‘Irish’ in the rest of the paragraph though.
So yes. [name]Charis[/name]/[name]Carys[/name] [name]Iona[/name] works well I think.
Where do they live?
It’s a pretty name, although the spelling of the first name really bothers me. It’s either [name]Charis[/name] (Greek) or [name]Carys[/name] (Welsh); Charys doesn’t comply with spelling rules in either of those languages, so it looks like a tacky faux “pretentious/girly/cheerleader” name, like [name]Chrystina[/name] or [name]Tyffany[/name] or Nycole.
I suggested above the name [name]Iona[/name] for her middle name, as well as [name]Iolanthe[/name], [name]Ianthe[/name], [name]Ismene[/name], [name]Ismay[/name], [name]Ione[/name], [name]Ivory[/name] or [name]Iris[/name].
