Would you pronounce [name_f]Chellie[/name_f] with the “sh” sound or the “ch” sound? Could this be used to honor [name_u]Michael[/name_u]? I was thinking it’s derived from a [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], which is derived from [name_u]Michael[/name_u], but is that a big stretch? Thanks!
I’d pronounce it like the “ch” in [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]. I think it’s a bit of a stretch, but possibly passable.
I would think “ch” as in chair. If someone told me [name_f]Chellie[/name_f] was named for [name_u]Michael[/name_u] my first response would be “…huh?”
I would pronounce it just like [name_u]Shelly[/name_u], with the “-sh” sound. I don’t think I’d make the connection with [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and someone would definitely have to explain to me in depth.
I’d pronounce it like [name_u]Shelly[/name_u], too, but I think it works as an honor name. Maybe not the most intuitive of honor names, but the names share similar sounds, and the [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] connection makes sense.
I’d pronounce it with the “ch” sounding like “Chew”.
I’m in AUS for referance.
I would pronounce like the sound in [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
Its quite cute, I can’t heard it before.
I think it’s too much a stretch for [name_u]Michael[/name_u]…
[name_u]Mika[/name_u] / [name_f]Meeka[/name_f]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_u]Misha[/name_u]
My instinct was to pronounce [name_f]Chellie[/name_f] with the “sh” sound, thinking it was a nn for [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] So I think it is perfectly reasonable to honor [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. You could also use [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]/[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f]/[name_f]Makayla[/name_f]/other spellings, [name_u]Mickey[/name_u], or just [name_u]Shelly[/name_u].
I’d pronounce it like [name_u]Shelley[/name_u] or like the chelle in [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] - I think it honours [name_u]Michael[/name_u] fine tbh
When I saw it I pronounced it like Ch in cherry
I pronounced it like that too.
I agree with this ^ post.
[name_f]Chellie[/name_f] is pronounced with the “cha” sound. [name_u]Shellie[/name_u] is pronounced with the “sha” sound.
[name_f]Chellie[/name_f] is not even close to honoring a [name_u]Michael[/name_u]…a huge stretch… and it looks too made up and kind of silly.
