Chesapeake

WDYT? Is it too weird/wordy/long? It could be used to honor a [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_f]IMO[/name_f], (although I don’t have any Chelseas to honor) because of the sound.

I don’t think the world is quite ready for a Chesapeake yet. It would be interesting in the middle name spot, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I agree this would work best in the middle name spot. But I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it as a place name.

Weird, imo.

pretty much this. I think of Chesapeake [name_u]Bay[/name_u], which is fine, but not really an outstanding name.

It’s actually got a really pretty sound. I like it as a place name, and probably just in the middle.

I used to have this on my list when I was just a fledgling name nerd, with the nickname Chessa. It’s still sounds intriguing and free-spirited to me, but I don’t think it’s really usable. I thought of the Chesapeake [name_u]Bay[/name_u], which is a really nice area and reminds me of beach vacations, so it’s a positive association, but not a good name.

I love it!

[name_f]Chesney[/name_f] or [name_m]Chess[/name_m] or [name_f]Chessie[/name_f] as nicknames.

Word names are often inspired in my opinion.

I know some hate word names on sight, but that just reminds me of all the people who only paint their walls beige or white.

The world is a colorful place and name choices should reflect that, for those who dare.

At first glance, I thought your post said cheapskate.

I like it just fine, actually. It might work better in a more artistic or economically mixed community. I can imagine a little little tyke might go by [name_f]Chessie[/name_f], and a young adult might like to be known as [name_m]Chess[/name_m], but I can just as easily imagine little girls calling a friend by her full, Chesapeake. [name_m]Add[/name_m] a more traditional short middle as insurance. [name_m]Just[/name_m] be sure she learns the rudiments of chess along the way.

Came here to say this.

As MN or FN, it’s okay, but you can expect a bit of teasing, and forever will be the reference of Chesapeake [name_u]Bay[/name_u].

Hate it (sorry :frowning: )

Maybe because I’m from the Mid-Atlantic area, but I actually do like it! I have never thought about it as a person’s name but it was on my list of horse names when I was a kid (a bay colored horse is brownish red with black mane, tail and legs, so Chesapeake, like [name_m]Montego[/name_m] would be a play on the ‘[name_u]Bay[/name_u]’ thing).
I actually am a little enamored with the idea of Chesapeake as a sentimental middle name. It probably is better than many of the other rivers around… Potomac, Patuxent Pocomoke,… Chicamacomico, Susquehanna?

[name_u]Read[/name_u] it as ‘cheesecake’ too at the first glance. Then I thought of the Chesapeake Ripper (yes, dedicated [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] watcher over here). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think it usable whatsoever.
