What was one or two names that like 8-15 year old you was like, I am going to name my child that one day. Then compare it to your favourite name of today. For me I had two names picked out [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. I was obsessed with these names, I now find them really dull. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite as of today is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] Luelle and [name_f]Enola[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_u]Fern[/name_u] but that changes daily.
So what was you favourite name as a 8-15 year old vs your favourite now?
I am fifteen right now… But as a child (7/8-12/13) I used to like
Clara
Adelaide
Diana
From 12/13 years old I started to get more passionated into names, and I also liked, other than the previous ones:
Viorica
Margot
Céline
Adèle
Vera
Anaïs (I met a girl of French descent named this and fell in love with the name)
I don’t like Clara, Adelaide and Vera much anymore, but I still like the other ones and would use them :))
Some names I liked as a child, from books or people I knew, but that I liked less than Clara, Adelaide and Diana:
Berenice
Angelica
Priscilla
Athénaïs (I discovered it when I was 13-14)
Joséphine (I discovered it when I was 13 and I loved it)
Clio
Hildegard (Thanks to a cartoon)
Sara / Sarah
Cornelia / Cordelia
Lavinia
Ermengarde (thanks to A Little Princess)
Drusilla
Viridiana
I remember I liked the name [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] a lot when I was 13 too!
8 yro me was into [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] - I still like all of these, name my first choices, but still in my top names.
10-13 yro me was into [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Cat[/name_f], [name_f]Dee[/name_f], [name_u]Jess[/name_u], [name_u]Mandy[/name_u], [name_f]Trudy[/name_f], [name_f]Lorilyn[/name_f], [name_f]Dollie[/name_f], [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. I like most of these still, but I like other nicknamey names more these days.
15 yro me had discovered the name [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] and that has been my ‘in-the-unlikely-event-I-have-a-daughter’ name ever since
I forgot that I loved [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] when I was 9-13 and I liked [name_f]Anastasie[/name_f] and [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] as a child too! And I also liked [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] when I was 12-13 (feh-beh and not fee-bee in my language/pronunciation).
[name_m]Just[/name_m] had a conversation with my mum and apparently I was into the names…
7-9: I really liked the names [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] after a friend.
10-13: I was apparently liked really old lady names, [name_f]Janet[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. I also like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_f]Enid[/name_f].
14-17: I really liked some decent names, Sadie-Rose, [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_u]Angie[/name_u] [name_u]Juno[/name_u], [name_u]Harlow[/name_u] [name_f]Luella[/name_f].
18: I am now (almost) eighteen and my favourites (of today) are [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] and [name_f]Enola[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_u]Fern[/name_u]. But these will probably change tomorrow.
As a young child (under ten) I liked [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (twins ofc) as well as [name_f]Tasha[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] and [name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]. A bit older I was very into [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and outrageously old fashioned names for boys like [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m] and [name_m]Algernon[/name_m]. I seem to have had an A-name thing!
Slightly older than 15 I had a thing about [name_f]Briony[/name_f], [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (not coincidentally all names which featured in my A-level literature texts )
The ones that have stuck around the longest are probably [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] which I liked as a child - I’d still use them both (in fact, what a nice sibset!)
ooh, i went through so many name phases!
1-7 year old me liked [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. the names around me the most!
8-10 was my naming era of dolls and whatnot. some of my favorite names were [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] “Rosie, [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] “Bella”, [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Hope[/name_f] influenced loads by a series of unfortunate events
(I also had a ten year old’s obsession with [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] and [name_u]Skylar[/name_u]. that was short lived)
11-13 was the start of the names I love now, with eleven bringing in [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. 12 had [name_u]Mika[/name_u], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], [name_u]Solstice[/name_u], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] in the early half, with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] taking over into 13
younger me was set on eleanor.
this continued through most of my life. it’s my grandma’s mom’s name. with its insane popularity however, i’ve decided against it. i also liked margaret, clara, beulah, willa, adelaide, and pearl, for girls, and jack, samuel, oliver, william, henry, rufus, and leo for boys.
i’ve always had a thing for vintage names, and i think i still do, i just like rarer names now with a more southern and cowboy flair. some of my current favorites are june, luella, willa, magnolia, gentry, clementine, and bea for girls, and nash, montgomery, bridger, shepherd, hayes, and cal for boys.
10 year old me had a list of:
[name_u]Promise[/name_u]
[name_f]Treasure[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Giovanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Dream[/name_u]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
I named a doll [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m].
I had very eclectic taste
Okay so as a teen I wanted 4 kids ( )
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u]
At some point (maybe 12 or so) I was obsessed with having twin boys named [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and [name_m]Colton[/name_m]. Around this time, I also liked [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
As a little kid (8-9), I had twin dolls named [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f], and I also loved the names [name_u]Lauren[/name_u], [name_u]Cadence[/name_u], and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] sister found one of my childhood lists in an old notebook the other day. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] was going to be my daughter’s name someday back then. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my middle name and [name_u]Kay[/name_u] is my grandma’s, mom’s and sister’s middle name. [name_f]Briana[/name_f] was also on the list along with [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] which I think is so funny because I married a [name_m]Brian[/name_m]. Aaaand… he refuses to name a kid after himself. lol So no little [name_f]Briana[/name_f] for us, but he did choose [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for our middle child’s middle name.
As a child below the age of 10 I wanted to name my kid [name_f]Rosabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Claribelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Queenie[/name_f] (yes, I was a bratty little princess; no, the thought never entered my head that I might have a boy!) To be fair [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is still on my list; between 10 and 15 [name_u]Noah[/name_u] was my boys name (still love him, I just wish he wasn’t number 1!) and my girls names were influenced by the fact I had discovered [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]: [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
“Creatively” spelled 80s/90s names - I remember loving [name_f]Tifany[/name_f], [name_f]Brittaney[/name_f], & [name_f]Kandy[/name_f].
A lot of the ones I remember really liking were things like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] whereas now my top names are more along the lines of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f], [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. I think when I was just starting to get really into names I was drawn to fancy, elaborate, girly, princess names because they’re gorgeous but now ten years later as an adult I have a much better handle on who I am as a person and the kind of things that actually suit me/what I can envison my future kids being like so now I lean towards more sharp sounds and less frills. It’s not actually a huge shift and some names like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] have been on my list through all of this but its definitely interesting.
Lol, same. When I finally did decide to have a boys list at ~14 it only had Henry Oliver on it, both names I still love but am also frustrated by the popularity of.
I knew that I would name one of my daughters [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] since I was maybe around 8-ish, possibly younger! It’s never lost it’s charm to me .
There were a handful of other names though that I was absolutely sure I wanted to use. I used to keep a weekly top 3 list in one of my old notebooks! A couple that I remember being on there regularly were [name_f]Courteney[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Willow[/name_u], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f].
When i was in my teens i loved [name_m]Tide[/name_m] & [name_m]Leif[/name_m].
At 35, I dont mind them.
They were pretty out there, back then. Oddly i only ever had boys names and still find boys names easier than girls.
The ones I remember liking were [name_f]Emily[/name_f] for a girl (thanks to Hocus Pocus!) And [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], Aidenpoo & [name_m]Eaton[/name_m] for boys. All of which are fine names (accept [name_m]Eaton[/name_m] which in my accent sounds almost identical to eating…) but I would never consider now.
From what I can remember of 16-23 years ago…
Then - [name_f]Millie[/name_f] & [name_m]Tom[/name_m]
I believe I was around 9-12 when I wrote a short story with a character named Millie… I guess I picked that name because I liked it…
I remember telling my mom I wanted to name a son [name_m]Tom[/name_m] because of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (sigh even at a young age, I preferred villains ). She said not to use that name because we’re Catholic and “doubting Thomas” wasn’t a good association… Which is all so funny in hindsight
Now my name style is… Divine/magical, sometimes strong meanings, sometimes dark, and not heard often.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] to pick two of my names for comparison…
Now - [name_f]Saphira[/name_f] & [name_m]Beaumont[/name_m]
