Choosing a Pseudonym

I’m drowing! I feel like I’ve looked at every name in existence at this point and rejected them all for one reason or another. I’m kind of obsessed with choosing names for characters, so imagine how obsessed I’ve become in the search for an authorial pseudonym.

The criteria I’ve been using:

Many thanks to anyone who can help me with this. I’m going to hold off on mentioning any names on my short list because I want to see what other people suggest first!

I’d say [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]/ [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]. It has that M sound you like, it’s been used over many generations and its not too frilly. I love it! (I’m biased, though, it’s my 2nd favorite name…)

I love the last name [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] but maybe you could change “Well” to “[name_m]Wells[/name_m]”?

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]
[name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]/ [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] (I know it could launch the whole spelling discussion, but I really like it)
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]

I know they don’t all start with G, J, or M, but I thought you’d like them!

Thanks for the replies! (Keep 'em coming!)

I really love the name [name_f]Olive[/name_f] but I have other plans for that one.

You’re right. I’m giving serious consideration to “[name_m]Wells[/name_m]” or dropping it altogether. I noticed that the poster above you automatically added the S, which makes me think that would be a common problem.

[name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Mai[/name_f] was on my short list. I like that you like it!

@gingerbreadfeet
Thank you! It’s a great name. I like that you like it too  I’m sorry for adding an S to Well! I guess I just read it fast!

I think most people would mistake Well as [name_m]Wells[/name_m] because it’s the more common form of the surname. [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] might be the better option - it’ll pass the Party Test better than Well would.

Androgynous/not frilly, G, J or M, hmm…

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] Well/s
[name_u]Jules[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] - androgynous nicknames could be a good option for you
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] - or [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] for that matter
[name_u]Jackie[/name_u] Well/s - or [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], but that might be too frilly for you
[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] Well/s - or [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], but that spelling’s a bit more masculine

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] came to my mind too! [name_u]Jules[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] is great, I love it.

[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] Well
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_m]Wells[/name_m]

By the way, in choosing between Well, [name_m]Wells[/name_m], and [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], you might want to go walk around a few bookstores and libraries at the places where your books might be shelved (whether that’s among fantasy writers, or YA, or YA-series, etc) and notice how many [name_m]Wells[/name_m], Wellses and Harveys there are. My guess is the H section would be less crowded, but honestly I couldn’t rightly say.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] was my first thought.

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]/[name_f]Jane[/name_f]/[name_f]Kyoko[/name_f]* [name_m]Wells[/name_m].

*i know some people who spell [name_f]Kyoko[/name_f] as Kyouko.
