Help!We had a beautiful baby girl two weeks ago and still don’t have a name! Our toddler is named [name_u]Romy[/name_u] and we get so many compliments on her name.
We would like something equally as unique, strong, and feminine.
When I first got pregnant I fell in love with the name [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], and would use [name_f]Mona[/name_f] as a nickname. But I know it is so close to [name_u]Romy[/name_u].
My husband is pretty set on that name. But now I am conflicted!
I also really like
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (we’d call her [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]), and
[name_m]Berlin[/name_m]
I think she could suit any of these names, mono, [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], or [name_m]Berlin[/name_m].
As more time passes the harder it gets!
Any first impressions on what would be a good match for [name_u]Romy[/name_u]?
Would you consider just naming her [name_f]Mona[/name_f]? [name_u]Romy[/name_u] & M0na would be a nice sister set. R0my & Cle0 also works well. My own preference would be to use a shorter nickname type name as the given name for the younger sister too. A few other ideas:
I do agree with you that [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is a bit close. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is also used as a nickname for [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] as well. I think that [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] would work well with [name_u]Romy[/name_u] too, but [name_f]Mona[/name_f] by itself would work also.
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] when you already have a [name_u]Romy[/name_u], even if [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] was mostly called [name_f]Mona[/name_f]. Far too close, and most Ramonas are probably called [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] use [name_f]Mona[/name_f] if you love that. I love suggestion of [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. And [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are both lovely names.
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] is pretty! I can see the conflict and similarity but it doesn’t really sound quite the same out loud. [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-my and rah-moh-na or ray-moh-na. On one hand, the fact that both you and your hubby love it is like a miracle to me. On the other hand, if you looked at your baby girl and didn’t see a [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]…? Is that the case?
Out of [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_m]Berlin[/name_m], I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] best. [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] is cute!
From hunting around for similar names that would sound good with [name_u]Romy[/name_u]:[ul]

Similar names to [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_m]Berlin[/name_m]:[ul]
[name_u]Romy[/name_u] and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] are too close in my opinion given that [name_u]Romy[/name_u] can be a nickname for [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], and was going to suggest using just [name_f]Mona[/name_f] too. [name_f]Mona[/name_f] is definitely substantial enough to be a full name, no less so than [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] and [name_f]Mona[/name_f] make a nice sibset- they’re both short and simple in sound but distinctive and not super common, and not ultra-feminine but still clearly girls’ names.
I think you [name_u]Romy[/name_u] and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] are too close unfortunately. You might call her [name_f]Mona[/name_f] but when she’s at school and nicknames are occurring more spontaneously, you could easily end up with two daughters called [name_u]Romy[/name_u]!
I really like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] a lot.
Other ideas that could work:
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_f]Clea[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (too girly for you maybe?)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
I agree that [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] are too close, but I like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Mona[/name_f]. [name_m]Berlin[/name_m] doesn’t really sound like a name to me. I like the suggestions of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Tilda[/name_f].
I think [name_f]CLeo[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] work with [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. [name_m]Berlin[/name_m]? Never…reminds me of a terrible time in history (even though it’s not like that any longer…)
