On [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_u]Day[/name_u] 2014 my older sister gave birth to their second child and only daughter who they named [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] basically I think that her name choice… isn’t the best… I just wanted to know if other people thought this name was “beautiful” or “horrendous”?
thx

It is a bit heavy-handed when it comes to holiday themed names. I really don’t like holiday names to begin with, but I think that [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Carol[/name_f] would have been more tasteful choices.
At least the baby can choose to go by [name_u]Chris[/name_u] or [name_u]Christy[/name_u] when she’s older?
I actually really love [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]… in a guilty pleasure sort of way. I wouldn’t actually bestow it upon a child. It has an attractive sound, though.
Is your sister religious, because pairing [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] with [name_f]Marie[/name_f] really screams “I’m [name_m]Christian[/name_m]” imo.
I personally wouldn’t do it, if anything, it would be better if [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] was used in the middle spot instead. The child already has to deal with sharing a birthday with [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], now she has to wear [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] as a name as well? Such a burden and not very creative. There are better names to honor her [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] birth like [name_f]Holly[/name_f] or [name_u]Noel[/name_u].
Poor kid, at least [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] is long enough to have some potential nicknames.
I wouldn’t do it personally, but it’s really adorable! It’s kinda along the lines of naming your child [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] or [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. [name_u]Christy[/name_u] isn’t my favorite nickname, but maybe they could use [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] for the ‘mas’ part?
I think it’s pretty perfect, and I would love to meet a little [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].
I probably would have used [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] myself…
I personally love the name [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], especially with the nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. I think it is beautiful- I love the significance and it overall has a lovely sound and meaning. I would personally use it in a heartbeat if I had a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] baby.
While I wouldn’t use it myself I think [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] has a nice sound and plenty of nickname potential. It’s cute and unique imo
I honestly don’t like it.
It would be bad enough that she had to share her birthday with the holiday, but to be named after the holiday too? [name_m]Just[/name_m] awful. And I agree with above, paired with [name_f]Marie[/name_f] screams Catholic and we love the [name_m]Lord[/name_m]. Too much for me and if I saw that as the name with the birthday on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] too, I would have a good laugh about it.
I sort of like [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], in a sort of GP way, but it is a little much as an actual name. If I was born on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_u]Day[/name_u], or even [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], and my name was [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], I’d want to strangle my parents, but I’ve seen much worse. I’m not sure I’d call it horrendous.
I agree with the others that there are plenty of usable nns that make it more palatable, though–[name_u]Christie[/name_u], [name_f]Chrissy[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], even [name_u]Issy[/name_u] or [name_f]Macy[/name_f].
I think this. It seems a little silly to me to name a child born on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] the title [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] (like this is the child’s defining characteristic), as would naming a child [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] because they were born on [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. It just seems a bit… spur of the moment kind of. I think choosing something more subtle like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Christine[/name_f], [name_f]Christiana[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], etc, would’ve been a bit better. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] would be so cute for a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] baby [name_f]IMO[/name_f]! Or, even [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] in the middle would’ve been a good choice (I think it would be super cute). Choosing a not [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] name like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], how cute! [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] is a total GP [name_f]IMO[/name_f], and despite the cuteness and the story, seems a bit much in the first spot. I’d hate to be named [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], and I’m a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] fanatic. But hey, your sister chose it, and it could be worse. [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is not a bad name, just a bit silly/tacky.
Omg i love, love, love christmas and i think that it was a great choice to pair it with marie, wich is a nice middle name.
I actually think it’s pretty cool. I’d love this baby I’m having to come a little early so I could name nir Beltane. (Though, not sure if I’m personally bold enough to name a kid [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], but if I was [name_m]Christian[/name_m], maybe I would?)
Over-all though, you’ll have your own kids to name. Respect her choices, and hope she has the decency to do the same for you
