Cimorene

Last night, my husband and I were talking about our favorite female characters from books and their names. He reminded me of the spirited and bright Cimorene from The Enchanted [name]Forest[/name] Chronicles. I really like her name! Cimorene is very pretty to my ears -without feeling fussy. What do you think?

For fun, some of the other ladies from the series:

Morwen
Shiara
Alianora
Kazul (a dragon!)

Has anyone else found or remembered any name-gems from books lately?

Cimorene is actually amazing…the more I say it in my head, the more I like it. I’ve never heard it before but it has all the qualities that make a perfect name in my book: easily spelled, easily pronounced, completely unique and unused, attention-grabbing in an appropriate way…and bonus points for making me think of cinnamon. I also really like Morwen from the list.

The book names that I have always liked are (of course) anything from the [name]Narnia[/name] series: [name]Shasta[/name], [name]Aravis[/name], etc. My latest name find from a book was actually a boys’ name in a [name]Lincoln[/name] biography–[name]Thurlow[/name], which made it onto my boy name list.

Wow, Cimorene is a very pretty name! It caught my eye when I was looking through the threads, so I wanted to stop in and say that. I haven’t had much time to read lately, but semi-book related is I did a silly thing and started liking the name [name]Harlan[/name] for a boy. It’s not usable though since I have already utilized it for the main character of the novel I’m writing. Oops.

I used to love those books! I don’t even know how many times I read that series; I think I had it permanently checked out from the library.

Cimorene is so pretty. It sounds similar in rhythm and sound to “shimmering,” so I picture sunlight on water.

Cimorene is lovely.

Cimorene sounds exactly like a princess from a fantasy book series should sound. That said, I don’t think it translates well in real life and reminds me too much of cinnamon and symbol.

I think it’s stunning and is visually appealing, but like the previous person has mentioned, I don’t think it translates too well.

Alzora-dear, I feel the same way. And, the cinnamon association warms my heart, so sweet. <3 your Narnia names :). I’ve never heard Thurlow before, that IS a cool name.

sansa_nanami, glad you like it! Isn’t that the worst? When you doom the future usage of a name for yourself? I’ve done that with a few beautiful names. Sigh. I feel for you with your Harlan.

r_j YES, they are wonderful books aren’t they?? I am definitely checking my library to see if they have any of them for some rereading :). I adore your association with shimmering water, water dancing with sunlight, what a beautiful image for a name to elicit .

theclocktowerofjoy, woohoo, happy to hear that! You guys are convincing me to put it on my long list -maybe just for a middle name, but still.

scarletrune, it is princessy in that adventurous heroine way. Thanks for your comment. I can see why the closeness to those words might make it harder to use in real life.

montanarose, thank you! I am undecided on it for a first name but I think we’ll consider it for a middle name -for a hypothetical, future baby.

Thanks for your opinions everyone, they really help. <3

That’s not what I meant but okay. It’s princessy in that frilly, making up a name that sounds like a princess name way.

Yea, I’d have to agree with this.
Honestly, it sounds like someone liked the named [name]Cinnamon[/name] but thought it sounded too hookerish, so they added a French ending to make it “different”.

Cimorene is just cool

My apologies. I don’t see it as frilly but of course, my association is with the character who was not frilly at all.

Never read the books. I can see why you like how it sounds, but it will be seen as a made up name (if that bothers you).

kala_way, Eek, I am surprised people see it this way but it is good to know, thanks.

yolo199, I think so too, thanks for commenting!

gijanie, thanks, yeah, for that reason, it is strictly on the middle name long list.

I am currently reading The Enchanted [name]Forest[/name] Chronicles to my kids and have read them myself several times. I love the character and while I do find her name pretty, I do not think it works well in real life, except maybe as a middle. I also have Daystar and Telemain on my boy guilty pleasure list.
