Cinderella - ever usable?

So, I am no where NEAR to having kids, so don’t worry about my poor daughter named after a fairy tail. But I thought [name]Cinderella[/name] would be an interesting name to consider with my fellow name nerds. As far as I know, it was invented for the fairy tail, because she was covered in cinders from her hard work. And yet, if you can remove all the associations, it actually seems to be in line with some popular names. It ends with the oh so popular -ella, like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Annabella[/name], and it’s beginning reminds me of stylish [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Silvie[/name]. What do you guys think? Could [name]Cinderella[/name] ever overcome its origins and belong on a real little girl?

I don’t think [name]Cinderella[/name] will ever be usable. Yes, it is similar to the trendy -belle/-bella names that are so popular right now, but using it just wouldn’t work.
Firstly, too much teasing potential. Secondly, I personally think it would look awful on a resume and would struggle to take an adult [name]Cinderella[/name] seriously. Thirdly, it has bad connotations! Its a story about a young girl bullied into slavery by her wicked stepmother, and her struggle to leave that life. Not the best association, imo.
I can’t see [name]Cinderella[/name] ever rising in popularity, I see it staying in the fairy tale

I agree with [name]Lucy[/name] that while it’s reminiscent of names like [name]Cindy[/name]/[name]Cynthia[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Arabella[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]/etc., I don’t think it’s that usable. If it could overcome the associations, then maybe, but I don’t think it ever will. [name]Cinderella[/name] has been around for far too long, and thousands of little girls in the future will love [name]Cinderella[/name] in the future. I’m not sure why [name]Belle[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name], [name]Ariel[/name], etc., are so much more usable than [name]Cinderella[/name], but, realistically, I don’t think [name]Cinderella[/name] is that usable. I agree with [name]Lucy[/name] that [name]Cinderella[/name] seems perpetually cutesy and won’t grow up that well.

I’m sad to say that I agree with the other 2. I think it has a lovely sound, and I used to know a girl named Cinder, but I don’t think it will ever move past the fairy tale. It was a fairy tale long before Disney remade it and they’ll continue to remake it just like they’re doing with the other ones ([name]Snow[/name] White most recently I think). The Cinder i knew hated her name and I think she’s changed her name to [name]Ember[/name], similar but not as bad.

I don’t think it’s usable at all.

I really like [name]Ember[/name] and I like a number of names that sound like “fairy princess names” ([name]Melisande[/name], anyone?) but I don’t think [name]Cinderella[/name] is usable.

Incidentally, I also haven’t forgiven Disney for trying to make [name]Ariel[/name] a girl’s name. I like it for boys and I know some men by that name… but not many that are American-born after that damned [name]Little[/name] Mermaid movie.

No, never useable. It is an extremely well known fairy tale, movie, etc. and nobody would take a child called [name]Cinderella[/name] seriously. It’s like naming your child Rapunzel, [name]Snow[/name] White, or Pocahontas. As a matter of fact, a coworker that came from the Philippines chose the English name [name]Cinderella[/name] for herself (although she goes by [name]Cindy[/name] exclusively). There are similar princessy names that don’t have the whole story behind them like [name]Cinderella[/name] does; I know a girl named [name]Rilla[/name] who pronounces it like “rella” and I think it’s a very cute name.

No. Too associated with the princess, similar to [name]Snow[/name] White. But [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name], and [name]Tiana[/name] are up for grabs!
