Clara or Amelie

My baby is due any day now, and I am trying to settle on a name!
Mostly I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and then sometimes I hear it spoken or see it spelled and then I feel iffy about it. I think it might be because I’ve been obsessing over baby names since I’ve found out I was pregnant, and I am honestly getting tired of it! [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is my great grandmother’s name, and I would call her either [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (after my grandmother [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and [name_f]May[/name_f] is also a family name) or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (after my husband’s grandmother [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]). Our last name is [name_u]Rees[/name_u] (pronounced [name_u]Reese[/name_u]). [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] seems pretty heavy on the R’s to me. I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] because it’s classic and not too common. It doesn’t rank in the top 100 where I live.
Another name I have been thinking about is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I think if I went with [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], I’d use the middle name [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to honour my grandmother or my paternal grandmother. Concerns about [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] are pronounciation… I live in a very Irish province in Eastern [name_f]Canada[/name_f] that mispronounces vowels as a part of our dialect and I can see them butchering [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I doubt many people here have seen the [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Tautou film either. Also would she constantly be correcting people thinking she’s another [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]?
What do you think?
This baby naming business is hard! :frowning:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]? Any other ideas?

I think both [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] are R-heavy, but the middle name won’t be said that much. I prefer [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] to [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u], though it is cute. Plus, you have the pronounciation issue. I’d go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] being a close, R-heavy second.

Both are beautiful names, but I would go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] if you have concerns about people butchering [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - that would be such a shame! If people aren’t familiar with the name, I do think they are likely to hear it as [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

Are you set on using an honour name as a middle? I only ask because [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] would be lovely, or you could have 2 middles and name her [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] to get the honour name in as well.

Good luck!

I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f], so I would probably go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

Personally, I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] sounds lovely! I like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], but I agree the flow isn’t quite right. What about [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u]? I feel like ending in a consonant this way makes it more sing songy and it flows kind of like a “stage name”.

Congrats! My favorite is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but both are lovely names. I really like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but I probably wouldn’t use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with [name_u]Rees[/name_u]… 2 one-syllable R-s names in a row is a bit awkward. With [name_u]Rees[/name_u], I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] sounds the best.

Amelie for sure!

For some reason I’ve always disliked Clara. Very strange as I love Cara, Lara, Mara, etc… But I just can’t stand Clara, no offence intended. I love a nice classic name but Clara seems very old-fashioned IMO, and it sounds a bit frumpy.

But I LOVE Amelie. Now here is a very beautiful name! I am having a daughter in six weeks and Amelie is one of my absolute top choices  it’s so chic and sophisticated, yet warm, sweet and soft. Cute on a little girl but ages well, I adore this name. It’s incredibly, effortlessly pretty, and I think it’s separate enough from Amelia that it wouldn’t be confused. Emily is different but I have a good friend named Amelie and I don’t think she has ever had an issue with it. Stunning, gorgeous name.

Amelie Rose is one of my favourite combos, just lovely - Amelie Mae is pretty but a tad ‘m’ heavy. My ultimate fave is Amelie Seren… Also how about Amelie Isabel, Amelie Charlotte, Amelie Grace, Amelie Jasmine, Amelie Caitlin, Amelie Rosalind?

Best of luck.

Here’s a vote for [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is beautiful! I am not a fan of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and I think the name would add stress to her life with misspellings and mispronunciations.

I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] the best.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Clarion[/name_f] [name_f]Maelie[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u]?
[name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u]?
[name_f]Amara[/name_f] [name_u]Romy[/name_u] [name_u]Rees[/name_u]?
Maeline [name_f]Cara[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u]?

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Rees[/name_u] is absolutely gorgeous, and my pick of your lovely combos. I like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] too, and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] isn’t a hard name to pick up (and I know it’s not where you are, but [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] would be well known in other parts of [name_f]Canada[/name_f]) but if you feel it would be a cause of constant issues/corrections in daily life, maybe [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is the better option.

All the best!
