Claret

Okay, hear me out. When you hear [name_f]Claret[/name_f], do you immediately think of the wine?? If so, would it be weird to potentially name a girl [name_f]Claret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Clarrie[/name_f]? I think it fits really well and also, my name is [name_m]Cana[/name_m] (The location of Jesus’ first miracle in the Bible where he turns water to wine) so I think it is really cool connection, but what do you all think?

[name_f][/name_f]

Thank you and please be kind!

I’ve not heard of the wine! Granted, I don’t like drinking wine, and I only buy it for cooking. But while I’m familiar with other types of wine (Sauvignon Blanc, [name_f]Merlot[/name_f], [name_f]Chardonnay[/name_f], etc.) [name_f]Claret[/name_f] would not ever bring wine to mind for me. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association with it is “clarinet”

[name_f][/name_f]

That said, if you’re going to call her [name_f]Clarrie[/name_f] anyway, I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is a nicer choice. Especially since, when I search for “Claret” online, the wine seems to be what all the results are about. It would personally bother me a tiny bit!

I actually immediately thought of a clarinet. I think it’s a fine name. I like your special connection to it as well. It’s a little unusual but not unusable in my opinion. I would pair it with something very classic that’s not likely to be misspelled or mispronounced. So if she has to correct people on claret spelling she is not having to do it with more than one name. I’m a fan of wine and have never heard of Claret, not like naming her Chardonnay or Merlot. Also agree Clara is a beautiful name.

Please do not name your child after alcohol. It’s cringey.

Are you specifically searching for wine names or do you just like the name? I think there are better names than [name_f]Claret[/name_f], and I think it’s bit too obscure to be cute and too not obscure enough to be normal name.

It was just an idea! I like the nickname Clarrie and I was wondering if Claret was usable! I guess not.

Thank you for your opinion.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was not of the wine; I thought oo that’s a nice new take on Claire/ [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. However, my second thought was indeed the wine :wine_glass:[name_f][/name_f] still pretty

I haven’t heard of the wine (though I am under 21 haha), I though of clarinets first! Because of that (and that it’s not a really established name) I probably wouldn’t use it as a first… but I love[name_f][/name_f] it as a middle for you! It’s sort of like [name_f]Olivet[/name_f] or [name_f]Adalet[/name_f], and I love the subtle connection to your name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:[name_f][/name_f] Think of all the combos you could make with [name_f]Claret[/name_f]!

Definitely just wine to me, sorry!

I think of wine and blood :wine_glass:[name_f][/name_f] :drop_of_blood:[name_f][/name_f] which I suppose does link to the Bible in its own way.

[name_f][/name_f]

Objectively, I do think it could have potential [name_f][/name_f]- a little like [name_f]Clare[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] into one [name_f][/name_f]- but I’m not sure I’d do the wine/blood association myself.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you wanted a connection with your name, it might be worth pondering other names/places related to miracles [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Galilee[/name_f], [name_f]Evening[/name_f] (Evie), [name_f]Bethesda[/name_f] (Beth, [name_f]Bethie[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f], Betty), [name_f]Bethsaida[/name_f] (Beth, Sadie)…

I do find [name_f]Claret[/name_f] appealing in a vacuum but agree with the others it’s not very usable. [name_f][/name_f] I don’t drink, I love the color, combines my beloved [name_f]Claire[/name_f] with the -et ending I love so much. [name_f][/name_f] And as a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], the story you’re referencing is so meaningful to me! [name_f][/name_f] I don’t think that’s how it’d be received, though, and for that reason I think it’s better left as a guilty pleasure. [name_f][/name_f] If not [name_f]Claret[/name_f], you might consider another place name in reference to your name? [name_f][/name_f] Something like:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Arava[/name_f] or Arabah
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Ariel[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_m]Aviv[/name_m]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Bethel[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Bethesda[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Eden[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] or [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Gethsemane[/name_f] (maybe also too guilty pleasure!)
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Havilah[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Olivet[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] your name, by the way! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Cana[/name_m] is one of my favorite Biblical place names. [name_f][/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

I love the subtle connection to your name, and if she didn’t have to live with other people I think it would be very pretty and cute. [name_f][/name_f] However I think the overall population is probably just going to think of the alcohol, it would probably give the same vibe as chardonnay, or [name_f]Merlot[/name_f]. And if you wouldn’t use one of those is probably best to avoid [name_f]Claret[/name_f] too unfortunately. [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_f]Clarrie[/name_f] though.

Okay thanks so much guys!

Definitely wine. I don’t think it’s usable for that reason.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Clarion[/name_f]? :bell:

[name_f]Claret[/name_f] is a new discovery, and I immediately thought of [name_f]Clara[/name_f] upon seeing this name. I would pronounce it cluh-ray.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Like[/name_m] @Greyblue[name_f][/name_f] mentioned, it has potential as an honor for a [name_f]Clare[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f], or any other name that has a meaning associated with brightness or the colors white and red. I also love how [name_f]Claret[/name_f] honours you.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thank you for bringing this gem to my attention!

I immediately thought of alcohol when I saw it. Are you wanting an obscure Biblical name or a name that is connected to wine?
