Classic Boys Names

Hello all! I’m due with [name_u]Baby[/name_u] #3 late [name_u]January[/name_u] or early [name_f]February[/name_f], so we don’t know what we are having yet. However, we already have two boys so I’m worried it will be difficult to find a boys name I love as much as the ones I’ve already used!
I have some names on my list, but I’m looking for opinions and suggestions.

[name_m]Hayes[/name_m]–My husband doesn’t love it, and worries people will just hear “[name_m]Haze[/name_m]”. I read it in a book and I think it sounds old and unique without being weird. I do worry about hearing “[name_m]Haze[/name_m]” the more I think/say it. In high school I liked Hollyn for a girl, but then all I could hear was --haulin’-- (we’re a farm family so it just made me think of haulin’ cattle lol!)
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]–Always been on my list, but I didn’t use it with #1 or #2, do I love it enough to use it this time?
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]–I don’t like full names for this…[name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], etc. I don’t know if [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is enough.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]–I like it, no real complaints. My husband doesn’t like the possible nickname “[name_m]Hank[/name_m]”.

Our boys are named [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], popular nationally in the U.S. but not in our area so I’d like something similar for a possible third boy.

There are a couple of names that I feel would fit, but we can’t use for various reasons.
– [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], and Max/Maxwell (dogs’ names in my husband’s family)
– [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (My [name_m]BIL[/name_m]'s name)

    • Nicholas (My cousin’s first name, and we see each other all the time.)
    • Also just remembered…Milo (My great uncle’s name, but we wouldn’t be using it to honor, I just like the sound. I wonder if my family would assume it’s an honor name?)
Our last name ends in -son, so I think first names ending in -son sound repetitive, otherwise I would like [name_m]Nelson[/name_m] and give it more consideration. I like the name [name_u]Dean[/name_u], but already used it as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s middle name!
I’m also a teacher, so, there’s that. It just makes me more picky, probably.

Since we’ve never had the opportunity to use a girl name, I already have a list of names I’d love to use for a possible girl.

I love all of your name choices!

Some other possibilities with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] & [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]…

[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]/[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]/[name_m]Dan[/name_m]
[name_m]Davis[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is perfect! No one will automatically nickname a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hank[/name_m], so don’t worry about that.

@ko46 I wondered if someone would suggest [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. It is actually my maiden name, so I think the family would appreciate seeing it used. However, I hate [name_m]Seb[/name_m] and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] and I’m not in love with a 9 letter first name paired with a 9 letter last name if I don’t like shortened options. Perhaps in the middle name spot. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] have been on and off the list a couple times. All of your suggestions are great options, I just don’t have a #1 like I did when choosing a name for my boys. Nothing really sticks out to me, but I’m open to adding options to the list at least. Who knows what will change before we actually need to settle on a name.

I feel like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] should be the perfect name. It is the same style as my other boys and I don’t know any other young [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s in our area…Have never taught one in school. But…I honestly think my husband came up with the “[name_m]Hank[/name_m]” nickname thing as a reason for it not being a top contender because he just doesn’t love it. I like it, and it seems like a perfect sibling for a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], but I can’t say I love it either. Maybe it will grow on me.

Or maybe I’ll find something new altogether to fall in love with.

I, too, think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a great match for your boys but if it doesn’t work just right for you, then that is fair enough. Have you considered Bash as a nickname for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]? I know its not to everyone’s taste but its an option.

[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Seymour[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u]
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]
[name_m]Greyson[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]

I have not heard of Bash as a nickname for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]! Something to consider!

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] seemed like the obvious choice for our new baby as well, but my husband and I just couldn’t get excited about it. Choose something you love even if it’s a little different!

Some ideas to go with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]:

[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (then all have the “r” ending)
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] (then all have the “r” ending)
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m]

Good luck deciding!

What about [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m]?

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and…

[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Leonard[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Finian[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Percival[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] does seem like a great fit, and I love the [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] “Bash” suggestion. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] are both stylish, with an old-fashioned vibe, and three syllables. It’s too bad about the -son surname, because [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] would be the first suggestion on my list otherwise! Second would be [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] Beyond those:

[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m], [name_m]Hadrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] (this would be a better fit in the UK, likely)

My mom has an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and a [name_u]Theo[/name_u] so you may share a smiliar taste to her.

She also has a [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and an [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]. She also considered [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] before deciding on [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for my youngest brother.

Other nickname options for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] are [name_m]Basti[/name_m] or [name_m]Baz[/name_m].

If not [name_m]Henry[/name_m], how about [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]?

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m] or [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]

Interesting!
[name_u]Michael[/name_u] is the name of a close family member, so I don’t want to use it…But [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] was on my list a long time ago, maybe I should suggest that one again to my husband.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Miles[/name_m]? [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. It’s a nod to [name_m]Milo[/name_m], but a bit of a different sound.

[name_m]Clifford[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Irwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Rodrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Alvin[/name_m]
[name_u]Leland[/name_u]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_u]Glen[/name_u]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
