Classic Name List- Opinions, Suggestions

I find that the only names I’ve loved for years and years are classic names. (Also the only names I agree with DH on) I love how they aren’t trendy and age well. I don’t mind them being popular, it’s the trendy-popular I don’t like.

[name]William[/name] “[name]Will[/name]”

[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]”
[name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georg[/name]-jay-na)
[name]Lilianna[/name] “[name]Lily[/name]”

[name]Benjamin[/name] “[name]Ben[/name]” - [name]Love[/name] it! It’s my big brother’s name…

[name]James[/name] “[name]Jamie[/name]” - [name]Love[/name] it! It’s the name of my dad, two grandpas, one uncle, and a cousin’s middle name…

[name]Owen[/name] - Cute! It’s growing on me…

[name]William[/name] “[name]Will[/name]” - A little bland, but classic and handsome…

[name]Alexander[/name] “[name]Alex[/name]” - Not a fan of [name]Alex[/name] names at all.

[name]Adam[/name] - Cute, not as classic as I like, but nice…

[name]Matthew[/name] “[name]Matt[/name]” - Like others better, a little boring…

[name]Reuben[/name] - Not a personal favorite, mainly because my grandma loves reuben sandwiches!

[name]Sean[/name] - What with [name]Shawn[/name] and [name]Shane[/name], this doesn’t feel classic to me…

FAVORITES - [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Owen[/name]

[name]Anna[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! Sweet and simple, but sassy…

[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]” - Not a fan of [name]Alex[/name] names.

[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! Longtime favorite of mine…

[name]Amelia[/name] - Cute, but not my favorite. [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Earhart[/name] is cool!

[name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georg[/name]-jay-na) - [name]Don[/name]'t like this pronunciation at all.

[name]Lilianna[/name] “[name]Lily[/name]” - [name]Lillian[/name] is more classic. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Liliana[/name]…

[name]Marianna[/name] - Pretty. Prefer just [name]Anna[/name]…

[name]Rosalie[/name] - [name]Rosalind[/name] or [name]Rosaleen[/name] are more my style…

[name]Juliet[/name] - I prefer [name]Julia[/name]…

[name]Rachel[/name] - This seems dated…

[name]Esme[/name] - Twilight. I can’t get on board with it!

FAVORITES - [name]Anna[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name]

Oh! Suggestions from my personal list include [name]Henry[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Julian[/name], and [name]Patrick[/name] for boys, and [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name] for girls!

I must absolutely agree with you! I’ve always been a lover of classic names. I’m also a history lover, so I love the names used by the British [name]Royal[/name] family.
Here are a few suggestions and personal favourites:

[name]Elizabeth[/name] “[name]Eliza[/name]”
[name]Helena[/name] (hel AY nah)

[name]Henry[/name] “[name]Harry[/name]”
[name]Leopold[/name] “[name]Leo[/name]”

I also love many of the names you have listed and had to remind myself that they were already there!

You have beautiful names picked out! Like you said, they aren’t trendy-- they are classic and have good reason to be popular!

From your list these are my favorite:

[name]William[/name], [name]Matthew[/name] and [name]Sean[/name] (I have such a soft spot for [name]William[/name]!)
[name]Anna[/name], [name]Rachel[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]!

I don’t think you can go wrong with the picks you have!
Good luck!

“One of these is not like the others”, and that’s [name]Reuben[/name]. It seems less serious than the rest.

As my overriding criterion is uncommonness (without really odd spelling), I wouldn’t use most of these. That said, some of your girls’ names are very much my style - at least, my old style, favoring ultra-feminine, vowel-ending and vowel-heavy names. It’s not that I intrinsically dislike common names.

I don’t associate [name]Esme[/name] with Twilight, but I guess that’s because I’m outside the target audience.

For me, [name]Charlotte[/name] is really annoying, and I usually like French names.

I also dislike most girls’ names that look like traditional male names, like [name]Georgia[/name] and variants. (And nobody would pronounce [name]Georgiana[/name] the way you want.) For some reason, I grant an exception for [name]Alexandra[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name]'s an old favorite I’d forgotten.

[name]Rosalie[/name] - Second the [name]Rosalind[/name] preference.

I’d like to see what names you really like but he doesn’t, or the other way round.

[name]Benjamin[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]James[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] - Really like.
[name]William[/name] “[name]Will[/name]” - Like though always worried of the nickname [name]Willy[/name].
[name]Alexander[/name] - [name]Love[/name] but so popular at the moment. Also apparently a name teachers watch out for in schools.
[name]Adam[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name] - [name]Love[/name] though a bit to popular.
[name]Reuben[/name] - One of my faverates.
[name]Sean[/name] - Prn [name]Shawn[/name]? Not my fave.
[name]Nathan[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] though like the full name as [name]Nathaniel[/name].

[name]Anna[/name] - Like, prefer [name]Anya[/name]/[name]Anja[/name].
[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]” - Pretty but a bit too strong for my tastes.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Like it, love the nn [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] - A bit of a mouthful but lovely with the nn [name]Milly[/name].
[name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georg[/name]-jay-na) - Too long. Though prefer as [name]Georg[/name]-ee-ana.
[name]Lilianna[/name] “[name]Lily[/name]” - V pretty. Prefer the name [name]Lilia[/name].
[name]Marianna[/name] - V pretty.
[name]Rosalie[/name] - V V pretty.
[name]Juliet[/name] - Beautiful
[name]Rachel[/name] - Not keen. Makes me think of Friends.
[name]Esme[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]

All are very nice names. My favorites:
[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]” - I love [name]Alexandra[/name], don’t like [name]Alexa[/name]
[name]Lilianna[/name] - I prefer the spelling [name]Liliana[/name], though

What about:

[name]Benjamin[/name] - I love [name]Benjamin[/name] and don’t think it’s too popular at all… out of these names I hear [name]Matthew[/name] and [name]Nathan[/name] 10x more!
[name]James[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]James[/name], but it is actually becoming a trend atm.
[name]Owen[/name] - dislike. This is not classic to me, sorry. :o/
[name]William[/name] “[name]Will[/name]” - this is my dad’s name and… its a definite no for me, anyway, plus you’ll get [name]Bill[/name] and [name]Billy[/name] and [name]Willy[/name].
[name]Alexander[/name] - loved this until a little boy ruined it for me, but still nice for others.
[name]Adam[/name] - I like this.
[name]Matthew[/name] - Would like it if it weren’t so overused.
[name]Reuben[/name] - I think it would be cute and fresh sounding with a NN like [name]Rue[/name]!
[name]Sean[/name] - I’ve known too many bad [name]Sean[/name]/[name]Shaun[/name]/Shawns… sorry.
[name]Nathan[/name] - Bad association, plus this isn’t classic to me. [name]Nathaniel[/name] “[name]Nathan[/name]” or [name]Nathaniel[/name] “[name]Nate[/name]” would be a better choice for a classic feel, in my opinion.

[name]Anna[/name] - I like this and it’s rarely used now. [name]Annabel[/name]?
[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]” - cute.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - cute on someone else’s child. I like NNs [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name].
[name]Amelia[/name] - eh. I want to love this name, but I can’t.
[name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georg[/name]-jay-na) - I pron. Geor-JAH-nuh
[name]Lilianna[/name] “[name]Lily[/name]” - it’s okay.
[name]Marianna[/name] - [name]Mary[/name]-[name]AH[/name]-nuh or [name]Mary[/name]-[name]ANN[/name]-uh?
[name]Rosalie[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name].
[name]Juliet[/name] - dislike, but I am in the minority on this one.
[name]Rachel[/name] - Like.
[name]Esme[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name].

The names that we both love love are

I do love these girl names but I’m not happy about them. I’m trying to find a girls name I love as much as the boys and gets me as excited but I haven’t found any yet.

The rest he or I are not as in love with. I do like to have a lot of choice.

Names he likes that I really don’t:
[name]Grace[/name] ([name]Gracie[/name])
[name]Amber[/name] -I think it’s too 80s
[name]Jordan[/name] (F) -I don’t like unisex names
[name]Jack[/name] (his dad’s name, we will use as a MN… it is too trendy-popular for me right now)

Names I like that he really doesn’t:
[name]Fiona[/name] -he said it was too “old ladyish” I cried a little inside…
[name]Isla[/name] -he likes it but can’t get past “is-lah”
[name]Amos[/name]- thinks it is “too old”
[name]Henry[/name]- also “too old”
[name]Edward[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name]- “old” (and no I am not a twilight fan)
Jaggar (Wasn’t in love with this or [name]Jasper[/name] but he reallyyyy hates it)

We both don’t like each others names mostly for bad associations but really anything super “biblical” like the first three on my list he is not a fan of although he is far from being athiest.

I love classic and vintage names, too! (A lot of the names on your list are vintage…)

[name]Benjamin[/name]: I love [name]Benjamin[/name]!
[name]James[/name]: I think that [name]James[/name] is so handsome!
[name]Owen[/name]: I love [name]Owen[/name], but I wouldn’t call it a classic.
[name]William[/name] “[name]Will[/name]”: I love it!
[name]Alexander[/name]: I think that [name]Alexander[/name] is very handsome, too.
[name]Adam[/name]: I like some of the others more…
[name]Matthew[/name]: I think it’s really handsome…
[name]Reuben[/name]: I like some of the others more, but I do think it’s handsome…
[name]Sean[/name]: [name]Sean[/name] feels pretty dated to me…
[name]Nathan[/name]: I love it, but I love [name]Nathaniel[/name] more.

[name]Anna[/name]: I love [name]Anna[/name]!
[name]Alexandra[/name] “[name]Alexa[/name]”: I don’t think of [name]Alexandra[/name] (especially [name]Alexa[/name]) as a classic for some reason…
[name]Charlotte[/name]: I love [name]Charlotte[/name]!
[name]Amelia[/name]: I think it’s beautiful!
[name]Georgiana[/name] ([name]Georg[/name]-jay-na): [name]Georgiana[/name] is one of my favorite vintage names. Depending on where you live, people may pronounce it as [name]George[/name]-ee-ahn-uh, though.
[name]Lilianna[/name] “[name]Lily[/name]”: This doesn’t feel classic to me, but I think it’s really pretty…
[name]Marianna[/name]: Ditto…
[name]Rosalie[/name]: I love [name]Rose[/name] as a first name more, but I love all [name]Rose[/name] names.
[name]Juliet[/name]: I love it!
[name]Rachel[/name]: I think it’s pretty…
[name]Esme[/name]: This doesn’t feel classic to me, either, but I do think it’s gorgeous.

You may find something you love on [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name]'s lists of classic names:

Some of my favorite classic and vintage names:

[name]Rose[/name] (as a first name)
[name]Susannah[/name] (nn [name]Annie[/name])

Good luck!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to say that i [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Nathan[/name] just the way it is. No need to make it [name]Nathaniel[/name], in my opinion, though many on namberry seem to like the longer version better. I think the nn [name]Nate[/name] is adorable! One of my favorite names! I also like [name]William[/name], and you could use the nn [name]Liam[/name] instead of [name]Will[/name], if you wanted. It is a little different, and itll be harder to get the nn [name]Willy[/name], which I don’t like either.
