Classic or trendy?

Are these names classic or trendy?

[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Adelyn[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]

I would order from most classic to least classic as follows:

[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Adelyn[/name]

They’re all classic names (the Y in [name]Adelyn[/name] makes it seem a bit made-up, but as far as I’m aware it’s a fairly old name), but they’re also very trendy at the minute.

Because classic IS a trend at the minute. Along with your list, names like [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Lily[/name] - are all classic names but currently ‘trendy’.

Exactly. I would definitely say that most of those names are trendy AND classic. I am a big fan of several of those names though.

They are both!

As classic names are ‘trendy’ at this precise moment so names like [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] are trendy but are classics. [name]Hence[/name] the reason why names like [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] which have been around for many years are the height of fashion as classics names are trendy. But in all honesty I think classics names aren’t date-able as their classics and have always been used.

A “trendy” name is one that comes out of nowhere and suddenly it’s everywhere. Therefore, [name]Adelyn[/name] is NOT classic. It’s a modern invention chosen by parents who liked the sound of [name]Madelyn[/name] and decided to chop off the first initial “M”). I think it’s the only name that I would define as “trendy” on your list. The remaining names are classic because they have been around for a long time (some of for many centuries). Many people confuse “trendy” with “popular”. If a name has been in usage for years, ebbs and flows in popularity and can’t be slotted into a certain time period (eg. a name like [name]Michelle[/name] which skyrocketed up the charts after the Beatles song in the sixties and now is “dated” to that era), then it’s classic.

Yes, exactly!

@mischa, This explains it perfectly!

I agree with [name]Mischa[/name]. Especially about people confusing trendy with popular! [name]Just[/name] because a name is popular does not make it trendy!
