So we have a son called “[name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]”. Would love some advice on names for a potential [name]Baby[/name] #2 that fit with his name.
My favorites are:
Boy
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Charlie[/name]”
Girl
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name] “[name]Margo[/name]”
or
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Gwenyth[/name] “[name]Margo[/name]”
Big question … is “[name]Margo[/name]” a substantial enough first name to go with “[name]Henry[/name]”. I’m leaning towards a timeless name like “[name]Margaret[/name]” to be the full name and choosing a nickname like “[name]Margo[/name]” (my husband loves [name]Margo[/name]). If [name]Margo[/name] is strong enough perhaps that should be the first name instead of [name]Margaret[/name]?
I’ve also toyed with the idea of first names : [name]Penelope[/name] nn “[name]Poppy[/name]” and for boys “[name]George[/name]”
Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] is really nice, though I actually prefer [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Charles[/name], with nn [name]Theo[/name].
Personally, I think [name]Margo[/name], especially spelled [name]Margot[/name], is absolutely a substantial enough name to go nicely with [name]Henry[/name]. I like it a lot better than [name]Margaret[/name]. It’s much more interesting, I feel. That said, [name]Margaret[/name] goes nicely with [name]Henry[/name], too.
I like [name]Margo/name/[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name] much better than [name]Margo/name/[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Gwenyth[/name].
I prefer [name]Penelope[/name] over [name]Margaret[/name]. But If you end up going with [name]Margaret[/name] I like your first combo of [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name]!
I think [name]Margot[/name] is perfectly fine as a first name. I also like [name]Marguerite[/name] as an alternative to [name]Margaret[/name] (Yes, it’s French, but it was one of the [name]Queen[/name] Mother’s middle names)
I think [name]Margot[/name] is very strong, but [name]Poppy[/name] is the essence of fluff. Of course, you can’t use [name]Penny[/name] since it’s so similar to [name]Henry[/name]. I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Gwyneth[/name], just for a bit of oomph. And incidentally wen I opened the thread I was not expecting names like [name]Henry[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], or [name]Penelope[/name] to be called whimsical!
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Charlie[/name]” is great and goes well with [name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]. I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name] with nn [name]Margo[/name] for girl. Of course, I absolutely love the name [name]Penelope[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name] still goes well with [name]Henry[/name]. Good luck!
[name]Blade[/name]…so true. I think I stuck ‘whimsical’ in there because we were considering “[name]Primrose[/name]” as a middle name for a while and I forgot that I didn’t mention this in the post. These names are probably the opposite of whimsical!
You really can’t go wrong here - all the names you are looking at are very classic-- [name]Charles[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Charlie[/name]” and either [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Gwenyth[/name] nn [name]Margot[/name] work well with [name]Henry[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]-- [name]Henry[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], and [name]Margo[/name]. I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] to [name]Margot[/name], but [name]Margaret[/name] may need or get shortened because [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name] are shorter and slightly less formal. What about [name]Alice[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Gwenyth[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] instead? [name]Henry[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], and [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Henry[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], and [name]Gwen[/name] sound better as sibsets to me.
I’d stick with [name]Margaret[/name] as a fn rather than [name]Margo[/name] (though [name]Margo[/name] is a great nn). [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is my favorite pairing.
[name]Charles[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] is an excellent combo, though I also adore [name]Theodore[/name] as a fn with [name]Theo[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name] as a nn.
[name]Penelope[/name] and [name]George[/name] would fit wonderfully with these sibling names. [name]George[/name] is a classic that is currently underused, so I’d probably use it before I’d use [name]Charles[/name], though both are fantastic names.
[name]Margo[/name] is fine on its own, but in your case i like it better as a nn for [name]Margaret[/name]. [name]Alice[/name] works better in the middle b/c the “g” sound is so prevalent in both [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Gwenyth[/name] (although i love the name [name]Gwenyth[/name] in general!). If [name]Margo[/name] is going to be a nickname, i think its better without the “t” at the end.
