Our princess’s due date is coming up super fast and we still don’t have a first name for her!! We both agree we want a classic name for her, but all of my husbands favorites I find too boring and he hasn’t liked any of my ideas I’m hoping to find a classic name that has some character to it (such as [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], which we can’t use, but I think is nice).
Any ideas, anyone? The only requirements along with being classic is the name cannot being with C or K and cannot end with Y/IE/EE/etc.
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] sounds pretty, though I can’t see us with a [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
Some of his names [no offense to anyone who likes these names, I just find them a bit dated/boring]:
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] (also the name of my ex-best friend, would rather not use a name close to it)
[name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
Some of my names:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (though it’s getting popular I’ve noticed)
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] (he didn’t like all the issues about pronunciations)
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
I have similar ex-friend issues with [name_f]Emily[/name_f]/[name_f]Emma[/name_f] ;). I definitely prefer [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f] to [name_f]Anne[/name_f] but agree with your assessment of the rest. What about [name_f]Nina[/name_f] if he isn’t going for [name_f]Nora[/name_f]? There was a great blog post just a couple days ago with underused classic girl names, you guys should check it out! Good luck.
I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] a lot! I’ll definitely suggest that one to my husband! [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is gorgeous but it’s too close to [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
I also looked at the blog post, and I like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] as well but not sure what my husband would think of that one!
I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Talia[/name_f], and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] a lot! I actually don’t mind [name_f]Molly[/name_f] but it ends with Y which we can’t have
First of all I’d say no names in the top 30+, not that those don’t have character but he popularity seems to ruin the specialness of some good name choices; I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but my daughter has two other Charlottes in her class!
I second [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
Other ideas: [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
Also look at names popular in the UK but excluding most of the ‘nicknames as first names’ trend.
I like all the names on your list (esp. [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!) and the suggestions you’re getting (and everything on claireelise’s list)!
Have you thought about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] as a less popular alternative to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]?
Other suggestions :
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_u]Marian[/name_u]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Heloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
Good luck - but with the ideas you have, you are in good shape !
Gosh, your husband is quite conservative! I love your list by the way. I’m having the opposite problem with my partner - all the names he chooses sound like strippers from Kentucky. Ha.
Yes, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] could be a good compromise.
Names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] can have great shortenings too - [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Bette[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] etc.
Perhaps your husband might go for the following:
[name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]…
