Claudie or Hildie?

Someone named me Claudie in one of those fun new name games and someone else recently shared the name Hildie (feel free to take credit). I really like them both - they’re sweet euro to me. Which do you prefer?

  • Claudie
  • Hildie
  • Both equally
  • Neither thanks love

“Sweet euro” - I would use [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]. [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] feels old though, not exactly that sweet, but not necessarily in a bad way. Reminds me of mountains.

[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] feels very cool and chic and underused right now. It used to be popular-ish before but now it is rare. I love both [name_u]Claude[/name_u] and I like [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] a lot, so I hope that they get looked a bit more.

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is [name_f]Claudia[/name_f].

From a perspective of someone living in Europe, [name_f]Claudie[/name_f] and [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] feel very… [name_f]British[/name_f], for some reason.

Yeah, I can see that @heartwings - with the many “ie” [name_u]Brit[/name_u] names (Alfie, [name_f]Millie[/name_f] etc). But the euro being that the names are continental European, and their diminutives (“sweet”). [name_f]Claudie[/name_f] is [name_u]French[/name_u] and [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] is [name_m]German[/name_m], as I’m sure you’d know!

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I love [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]! Def on my list. [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] not so keen on.

Yes, sorry! I did not think of that. I just meant that by “style” they feel very British like: Alfie, Elsie…

By Sweet Euro I was thinking about a name that is very used in Europe but “sounds sweet” like: Mia/Mila, Nora, Sophie, Luna, Emma, Elodie (It is rising these years in my country, and used to be popular in France), Romy? Sorry if I mistunderstood.

All good! Internet comms can be tricky - I made up that term “sweet euro” just as I was typing.:ribbon:

i adore them both !! they both do feel a little posh-girl to me, especially claudie, but that isn’t really a downside from a vibes perspective to me. they’re both very cute and on my list!

[name_f]Hildie[/name_f] does have sweeter vibes to me! It kind of makes me think of a little witch living in the woods with her little forest creature friends haha. [name_f]Claudie[/name_f] does feel moreeee… “stereotypical European”? I can imagine her more easily in Victorian [name_u]London[/name_u] or the streets of [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. I guess I’m literally just saying that naturally one feels sweet and [name_m]German[/name_m] and the other sweet and Western European  I’m biased, because I’ve never liked the [name_m]Claud[/name_m]- names, but I do prefer Hildie’s imagery and sound!

For me, as someone who has a germanic language as their mother tongue, [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] is giving me cow vibes (but not in a bad way!). It feels like a nn due to the ‘ie’ ending, so I will suggest [name_f]Hilde[/name_f] (pronounced as Hill-duh) or [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], with [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] as a nn!

As for [name_f]Claudie[/name_f], it’s a very sweet name, but it’s not my taste. I’ll suggest [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]!

Exactly! Very British for me

I imagine a French girl can be named easily Claudia, but not Claudie

[name_f]Hilde[/name_f] is pretty! And have been crushing on [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] since I was a kid.
