Claus/Klaus?

I have met a couple Klauses. [name]Both[/name] began with K and rhymed with house…both were also foreign exchange students. That is how I would spell and pronounce it.

If you have a [name]German[/name] or Nordic last name and spell it with a K and pronounce it Klouse (rhymes with mouse) I like it.

I like [name]Klaus[/name]! Spelled [name]Klaus[/name], I also think of [name]Klaus[/name] Baudelaire from Lemony Snicket. I say [name]Klaus[/name] so it rhymes with house (and I’m .pretty sure most everyone does.) [name]Claus[/name], like [name]Santa[/name] [name]Claus[/name] sounds like the word “clause” or “claws” (at least in American English). I would never name a child [name]Claus[/name], not only because of the [name]Christmas[/name] association, but it just doesn’t look or sound as good.

This probably wouldn’t be an issue in Norway, but one character I link the name to is the goldfish in the tv show American Dad. Now, that alone wouldn’t keep me from using the name, but it is out there.

Same here.
