What do you think of [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Toba[/name]?
[name]Clementine[/name] is a sweet name. [name]Toba[/name] makes me think of [name]Toby[/name] or [name]Tobias[/name].
A name with a similar feel is [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name].
I do tend to prefer a slightly more girly mn with [name]Clementine[/name]:
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Skye[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
I like it. I’m a huge [name]Clementine[/name] fan, and [name]Toba[/name] is interesting and unexpected. I like the previous suggestion of [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name] even more.
The name [name]Clementine[/name] makes me think of that variety of mandarin orange a bit too much, but I won’t argue if it’s your style. I do agree with agirlinred that [name]Tova[/name] would be an excellent middle name.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]! [name]Toba[/name] makes me think of tuba, as in the musical instrument, and I honestly don’t quite get the appeal of it. I also don’t really like the sound of the T in [name]Clementine[/name] being so near the T in [name]Toba[/name]. The flow strikes me as being a bit off in that respect.
I absolutely adore [name]Clementine[/name]! Not a fan of [name]Toba[/name], but I think the previous suggestion of [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name] is rather lovely.
I love [name]Clementine[/name], just not with [name]Toba[/name]. When I hear [name]Toba[/name] I either think of tuba, the instrament, or I want to shout “Toga!” Sorry! However, the previous suggestion of [name]Tova[/name] is really pretty. I like [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name].
- [name]Athena[/name]
Most Tobas I know - I don’t know if there are other histories behind it, sorry, so I’m just going from what I know - are from either the Hebrew [name]Tova/name, meaning “good” or from the Yiddish Toiba, meaning “dove.”
I am partial to the literal translation, and am thinking of using [name]Dove[/name] as a middle for a daughter of my own, in honour of a departed great-great aunt I really loved who had this name. [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Dove[/name] is really pretty.
[name]Tovah[/name], [name]Jemima[/name], or [name]Yonina[/name] could be other options?
NMS, but I like [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name] better, it has a more feminine appeal.
I like [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Toba[/name] too, but [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Toba[/name] honors someone.
Not a fan of clementine since I eat those… so all I see is the orange… [name]Toba[/name] is interesting, but strangely it sounds very boyish to me… also makes me think of togas
agree …
[name]Toba[/name] is honoring a [name]Toby[/name]? Or is the person’s name [name]Toba[/name]? I agree with someone else, I think [name]Toba[/name] sounds a bit masculine. I really like [name]Clementine[/name] though. I think it’s name-enough to to get past the fruit connections!
I think [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Tova[/name] has a better flow than [name]Toba[/name]. [name]Toba[/name] is a little hard to say-- I think because your mind tends to want to go to [name]Toby[/name]. I think [name]Tova[/name] is close enough to [name]Toby[/name] to honor this person, but it’s your call.
The only other time I’ve heard [name]Toba[/name] is from another poster here at NB – maddie17/mom9/tiara selena/etc. Hmmm.
I had a family member named [name]Tobias[/name], and I wanted to honor him in my child’s name. [name]Tova[/name] is a great alternative though, and I am really
starting to like it!!
What crunchymama said.
If [name]Toba[/name]'s honoring someone, then go for it. To me it does come across as feminine, but then i’m used to hearing it in that context: to me, [name]Toby[/name]/[name]Tobi[/name] is actually more feminine than masculine. I’m not in love with it in combo with [name]Clementine[/name], but the combo matters less if you’re mostly calling her one or the other.
ETA: i just saw that it is in honor of someone named [name]Tobias[/name]. In that case, [name]Tova[/name] is actually a more accurate feminization. Or you could work with the meaning (good) and choose another name that means “good”.
Thank-you for your help, spring13.
[name]Clementine[/name] is NMS but no bad. I like [name]Toba[/name], prefer [name]Tova[/name].
Does the name Tovia interest you? It’s a unisex form of [name]Tobias[/name].
Is it pronounced Toe-v-eye-is?
