Cleo or Cleopatra

We are talking about names should we have another girl in the future and I’ve pretty much fallen in love with [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]. I know most people find [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] ridiculous, but the more I think about it, the more I think I would like her full name to be [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]. Is it too much? What are your thoughts on meeting a little cleopatra?

She would have two sisters, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (who typically goes by [name_f]Nell[/name_f]).

Since you already have [name_f]Mae[/name_f], which is short, and if [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Nell[/name_f] most of time, I think just [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] would work better. [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] is beautiful, but a little over the top, but [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] on its own is adorable, strong and spunky! [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] make a wonderful trio of sisters!

I totally agree with the previous post - [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] feels like a better fit with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. Also to me it just feels like more of a wearable name than [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], which is really strongly linked to “the” [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] to me.

I agree with both pp

If you introduced your three daughters to me as [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] I would feel a little sorry for [name_f]Mae[/name_f], and be a little disappointed. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] are both names of strong, well know historical women (though I guess [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is fictional), [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would seem very odd alongside them.

[name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is great though! I would really just use [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] in this case, she strikes the perfect balance between [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is probably better although you could always put it in the middle spot eg. ____ [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] and just call her [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].

I think just [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is fine. [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] is a little too much and is so link to THE [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]. I’ve toyed with [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] as a nickname to [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], as that is one of FI’s absolute favorite names and I just don’t care for it. [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] “[name_f]Nell[/name_f]”, and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] “[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]” is cute!

I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] fits best with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f], and [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] is a lot for a child to wear.

I love [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f], but I think it’s too much with your daughter’s names. I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] would fit better with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] and would go with it! It works wonderfully well with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and I always link [name_f]Mae[/name_f] to [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u], another fiesty and beautiful woman, so I think they make a great set.

Thanks, everyone! I definitely see how [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] might seem to overshadow [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Funny thing is, there’s no overshadowing that girl  She definitely brings out the spunky, vibrant, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u] side of the name.

Now to make sure I can really get DH on board with [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]…

[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] is not exactly wearable or versatile. [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is a much better choice, especially with [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

With [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f] ([name_f]Penelope[/name_f]), I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] goes wonderfully. While I prefer [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], I find [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] to look weird next to your girls’ names.

I know two Cleopatras. One is the grandmother of a friend who goes mostly by Patra (Pah-trah). The other must be in her early 20’s and goes by her full name. Neither seemed to be bothered by their names’ or thought it was weird.

I dislike [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] but [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] is too much. I have met a [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]; I strongly recommend that you do not use [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f].
