Cliff or Jack? Brother for Rose and Clara

We are stuck between Cliff and Jack! Which do you prefer with Rose and Clara? I love Cliff, but worry that we shouldn’t have two C names… I love Jack, but worry it’s too popular with our very common and boring last name.

Also, would you do Clifford? Or just Cliff?

Middle name would either be my maiden name—rhymes with Rice, or Thomas, or Patrick, or Konrad, or Hans.

Help!

Definitely [name_m]Jack[/name_m] for me! It is popular, but it’s also a great, solid, energetic classic, perfect with your daughters’ traditional names.

[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is very tied to [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] [name_m]Richard[/name_m] for me, and it’s much less traditional (I’d even say that it feels a little dated, because of the CR link). It feels pretty left field next to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and I don’t like how both [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Cliff/name_m not only start with the same letter, but share a second letter as well.

I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] definitely fits better with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f], as all three are good, strong, timeless classics. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is quite offbeat, and doesn’t fit as well with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and also, yes, I like the idea of giving them all different initials (also, [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] share the same two first letters which isn’t ideal). I definitely prefer just [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] to [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] (which I find really dated), but I greatly prefer [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

I think if you gave [name_m]Jack[/name_m] a less common middle, it might not sound as ‘standard’ with the surname. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a note too, I wouldn’t use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_m]Hans[/name_m] together (as first and middle) though, as both names stem from the same root ([name_m]Ioannes[/name_m]). That said, most people aren’t necessarily too etymology obsessed so it probably wouldn’t matter so much, really.

Also worth the mention: as you’ve got both [name_m]Hans[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] on your list, how about [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] “[name_m]Jack[/name_m]” ([name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a common diminutive of [name_m]John[/name_m], through aforementioned [name_m]Ioannes[/name_m], so that could work) as a first name? If you liked [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] you could get your [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Hans[/name_m] and a ‘less common first’ into one name, and still add yet another special name (potentially your maiden name which would work nicely with [name_m]Johannes[/name_m]) for the middle.

I like [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] better but if you’re worried about the two C names [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Burke[/name_m]? Either way the nickname [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is the best for either.

I prefer [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] clashes with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] a bit, and it sounds very aged in my opinion

I really wanted to say [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] but it’s too similar to [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Can you imagine calling both them names next to each other?
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a strong classic - I personally find it a bit ho hum

Would you consider [name_m]Mack[/name_m]?

[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are too close for my taste and I also don’t see [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] as equally timeless as your girls’.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is good - but you might get the occasional Titanic reference and I also see it as weirdly similar to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as well.

If not [name_m]Jack[/name_m], how about:

Ted (or [name_m]Edward[/name_m]/[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] nn Ted)
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_m]Stafford[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] are perfect!

I prefer the name [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is boring and common to me. But I’m not too sure with [name_f]CLara[/name_f] and [name_m]CLiff[/name_m]. Sharing the first letter doesn’t bother me, but the first two enhances the similarity.

Another vote for [name_m]Jack[/name_m]! It is wonderful with the sister names.

I love both with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but would pick [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] because I think it has a very romantic, whimsical, storybook feel with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Traditional [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a perfect match, too! Can’t really go wrong. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] just excites me a bit more here.

That’s how I feel! But I am concerned about them both being CL names… and with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] I have heard so much about the titanic thing… I don’t really know if that should matter?

That’s the main reason I lean toward [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I personally find [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] quite matchy and it leaves [name_f]Rose[/name_f] out a little bit. Not a dealbreaker but definitely curved me strongly in favor of [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] sound so nice together. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] has a different vibe than the rest.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a great name and perfect with the sisters’ names. There are plenty of Jacks outside the Titanic reference - I doubt many people would even think of that.

Another vote for [name_m]Jack[/name_m]!

I prefer [name_m]Jack[/name_m] for sure. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]/[name_m]Clifford[/name_m] reads as super dated to me, but maybe that’s just because I have a 70 something uncle named [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. I personally prefer [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] over just [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] as well. I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] go really, really well together, all solid, easy to pronounce classic names with the perfect balance of trendy and never-going-out-of-style. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is my favourite combo of your middle names. I also think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] would make a great first name.

Have you considered
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]

I vote for [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. Totally unexpected, and I’m tired of hearing [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

Definitely [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. If you are worried about the popularity of [name_m]Jack[/name_m], you could use [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] as a formal name and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] as a nickname. Any of your middle names would work, but I especially like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

Hmm…[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is handsome, but I’m hearing it All The Time. I like [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]; it’s much more unexpected and interesting. It’s unfortunate that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] both start with Cl. Would you consider any other names?
Perhaps:
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Griff[/name_m]/[name_m]Griffon[/name_m]
[name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
