Cliff, Yes or No?

I’m looking for name suggestions for baby #2. I have been loving “[name_m]Cliff[/name_m]” for a baby boy (full name either [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] or [name_m]Clifton[/name_m]). [name_m]Just[/name_m] doing a quick poll to see if people like it or not. Our style is classic names that are easy to spell and pronounce but not overly common. [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] would be a little brother to [name_m]Frank[/name_m] (full name [name_u]Francis[/name_u])

I adore [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] :).

I don’t dislike it - quirky but well known. [name_m]Both[/name_m] options seem to fit the once old man name and surname name trends.
(DH is trying to sell me on the merits of [name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m], so your choices are interesting to me.)

I don’t mind [name_m]Clifford[/name_m]. I do at first think of the cartoon, but it’s not abad association. [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] go well together.

Also love [name_m]Clifford[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m], [name_m]Clarence[/name_m], and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m].

[name_m]Clifton[/name_m], so so.

[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is… okay. I like [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] better than [name_m]Clifton[/name_m]. It goes fine with [name_u]Francis[/name_u], but I’m not sure it’s a perfect fit. (Not that you necessarily care about that. I know I don’t with my kids!)

I love the name [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] and it sounds great with [name_u]Francis[/name_u]!

I don’t hear [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] very often here on Nameberry. I think [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] would be quite fine with [name_u]Francis[/name_u] (aka [name_m]Frank[/name_m]). [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] itself has a relaxed, laid-back, surfing beach boy image so I can see the appeal. I say yes!

I love [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] and am considering it for a future boy as well, if I ever have one. But [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] reminds me of the movie [name_m]Clifford[/name_m]. It’s just not my style either. [name_m]Clifton[/name_m] is even less my style, as the -ton ending just isn’t for me. So I’ve been considering whether [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is strong enough to stand alone. Could it be considered a nice, strong nature name? I also like [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] & [name_m]Clark[/name_m] is nice, but I don’t like them enough to really use them…

Very nice! I love it!

I love [name_m]Clifford[/name_m]! [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] are an adorable sibset!

Thanks for all the feedback! I really like [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] as well. My husband has a one syllable last name so for whatever reason I find I gravitate toward two syllable first names even though I like the sound of the shorter versions of [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. Thanks also for the feedback of [name_m]Clifton[/name_m]. I prefer [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] too but always think of “[name_m]Clifford[/name_m] the big red dog” books. [name_m]Clifton[/name_m] feels made up to me which I don’t overly like but I thought it was another way to get to [name_m]Cliff[/name_m]. I love how both [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] have a ‘nice guy’ feel to their names. Healthcliff is also an interesting choice. So many options! Your feedback is really helpful. Thanks to all that have responded!

[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is not my style, but of the two I prefer [name_m]Clifford[/name_m].
