Clio

I’ve always been partial to the long/full names over the nickname names
i.e. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] over [name_f]Addie[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] over [name_f]Franny[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] over [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]
No Maebys, Maisies etc for me
and never been into nickname names. I’ve just liked my kids to have a bit of an ability to go more serious/traditional if they’d like (depending on the situation)
But now I’m so drawn to [name_f]Clio[/name_f]…
Does [name_f]Clio[/name_f] seem nicknamey, or does it stand on it’s own as a full name?
Thanks!

I dislike nicknames-as-names but I like SHORT names.

I’m quite fond of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Noa[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Clare[/name_u], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f]… none of which feel overtly nickname-y to me. Despite being SHORTER than some names that do feel nickname-y.

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] lands on the edge. I think it just makes it over to the safe side of a name that’s just short. [name_f]Barely[/name_f]. It’s like [name_f]Mae[/name_f]: I really like it, but it’s aaaalmost in the land of nickname-only for me. I think it’s helped by [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_u]Clare[/name_u]/[name_f]Claire[/name_f] being so effective as full names. [name_f]Coco[/name_f] doesn’t make it for me, though.

I don’t think of [name_f]Clio[/name_f] as nick-namey but rather as a short name (as mentioned by stripedsocks). I suppose you could always go with [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] if you had to have a “full” name.

I prefer [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] to [name_f]Clio[/name_f] (not intended to be vulgar, but clio looks like a an abbreviated version of clitoris).

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] is a short name (where as [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is a nn to me). Not all short names are nick names. [name_f]Clio[/name_f] has history and she’s one of the muses in Greek mythology (of history). She’s short, spunky, historical, mythological, good on any age, sweet… It’s one of those names that has it all.

Ahh so I’m not the only one who can’t help but think that too!

[name_f]Clio[/name_f] was my grandma’s name. I believe it stands alone and is not nick-namey at all.

I love [name_f]Clio[/name_f]! I don’t look at it like a nickname at all. I think it’s dashing enough to stand upon it’s own as a first name

I agree with the er, anatomical look of “[name_f]Clio[/name_f].” It’s also the name of the fish in Pinocchio. And a TV psychic, Miss [name_f]Clio[/name_f]. That’s three strikes to me.

I couldn’t have said it any better! [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is a perfect shortname!!
