Clover

I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and my purpose of this post isn’t really to gauge possible reactions to it (though you can share your feelings on it, if you wish). My husband and I came across the name [name_f]Clover[/name_f] today and he absolutely loves it. The instant he heard it, he completely lit up…I’ve never seen him get so excited about a name before. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with our current top contenders, he said he really liked them, but they just didn’t seem to hold the same magic with him as they did with me. I like [name_f]Clover[/name_f] well enough, even though I honestly have never given it much thought before.
So, my questions:

  1. Our last name is an occupational name similar to [name_m]Tanner[/name_m], so we’d be looking at [name_f]Clover[/name_f] “[name_m]Tanner[/name_m]”. I know it definitely is heavy on the ending sounds, but it just doesn’t sound too bad to my ears. What do you think?

  2. We also came across another new name that we both really like, for a boy. It is [name_m]Cove[/name_m]. Again, as with [name_f]Clover[/name_f], it isn’t really something we’ve considered before, but we are starting to like it more than our current top boy name, [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. Could [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] work as siblings? It’s going to sound like we have a hippy naming style lol…but is it too bad?

  3. Any possible mn suggestions for [name_f]Clover[/name_f]? I was thinking:
*[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] : [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is our current top girl first name. Concern is it’s just too many ‘out there’ names.
    *[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: same concern as with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
    *[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]: too nature-y?
    *[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]: I think it sounds okay…
*[name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]: [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] is my mn, so maybe?

Thanks so much, everyone!

Here are my two cents - If your last name ends with an -ER I do think that “[name_f]Clover[/name_f]” feels a little redundant. I think the name “[name_m]Cove[/name_m]” goes well with a last name like that, however. I also feel that [name_f]Clover[/name_f] and [name_m]Cove[/name_m] feel TOO similar for sibset names. But you know what? If you guys get that light-up-love feeling I think you should pursue them.

Of your middle name choices I think [name_u]June[/name_u] sounds best. Especially with a two syllable last name, I just think the flow feels nice. [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is very pretty!

You didn’t ask for them, but here are some names that remind me of [name_f]Clover[/name_f] but don’t have that -ER ending:

[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Starr[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]

This has been on my list for awhile-- I think it’s sassy and adorable. My only qualm is sounding too close to “[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]” which is too popular for me. But we have two little girls with Irish names and I tried floating this as a third potential (I’m due on [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]!) It was a no-go for him but I hope you use it!!

[name_f]Clover[/name_f] is amazing. I would ignore the -er matching because you love the name. Also, being a girl, she would be more likely to end up changing her last names someday if she gets married.

I don’t think [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] would make a good sibling set. Personally I prefer [name_f]Clover[/name_f] to [name_m]Cove[/name_m].

I like [name_f]Clover[/name_f], I like the a nn option [name_f]Clo[/name_f]/[name_f]Cloey[/name_f]/[name_u]Clove[/name_u]
It sounds fine with “[name_m]Tanner[/name_m]”
For the mn, I like [name_f]Daniella[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] & [name_m]Cove[/name_m] are too close. [name_f]Clover[/name_f] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m] are nice

If you want to avoid two -er names, I knew a girl named Clovelly once, maybe that would work?

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Clover[/name_f]! I plan to use it as a middle name. I think a double “er” is sort of cute!

[name_m]Cove[/name_m] is too close, but [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] would be a gorgeous sibset!

[name_f]Clover[/name_f] isn’t my favorite name but I do love [name_m]Cove[/name_m]! I definitely prefer [name_m]Cove[/name_m] to [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. Maybe [name_m]Callen[/name_m] instead of [name_m]Callum[/name_m]? Unfortunately, I think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] and [name_m]Cove[/name_m] are a little too similar to be siblings for me. I wouldn’t worry about the -er endings of the first and last name. I don’t think it’s a big deal. A lot of people have similar situations with the -en ending sound for both names as well.
