Clunky ladies

I’ve come to the realization that I like clunky names for girls. And I mean I like some real clunkers…first it was [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], then [name_f]Hildie[/name_f], now I’m crushing on [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]. What do you think of these, specifically [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]?

Any other suggestions that would fit my style?

I prefer [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] & [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] over [name_f]Frieda[/name_f].

Others:
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Geraldine[/name_f]
[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Oona[/name_f] or [name_f]Enid[/name_f]?

I think the majority go nicely with your other choices  [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite clunkers are [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f] (I love the meaning), [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Honoria[/name_f], [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Loretta[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]

What about:

[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorena[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]

Sorry for repeats!

I like [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]!

Wilhemina is nice but I think its a bit long. I guess you could have [name_f]Willa[/name_f] as a nice nn.

Dont like [name_f]Hildie[/name_f].

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is my favourite clunky girl name!

Thank you all! For some reason I’m really feeling feminizations so I especially like the suggestions of [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f]. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is adorable, too, maybe as a nickname for [name_f]Frances[/name_f] of [name_f]Francine[/name_f]! Would love to hear any more opinions or suggestions, specifically regarding names with [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage (our last name is very german, translates to the word “terrible”)

I still have a while as we’re not ttc until next year. But of course it’s fun to think about

No suggestions at the moment, sorry, but I do love [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]! I’m not a fan of [name_f]Hildie[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] is quite nice. I actually went to school with a [name_f]Frida[/name_f], and we were friends when we were younger. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister also has a [name_f]Frida[/name_f]/[name_f]Freda[/name_f]/[name_f]Frieda[/name_f] in her classroom who is 11, but I’m not sure how she spells her name.

haha, that’s not where I thought you were going with this, lol. I think [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]'s sort of been streamlined by the chic nns of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f], and [name_f]Hildie[/name_f] I can maybe get (because of [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] from Ugly [name_f]Betty[/name_f], and also [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]/[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as a name…), and [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]… it’s okay. I actually don’t mind [name_f]Frieda[/name_f], but I’m not terribly excited about it. It seems old-fashioned and rather out of style right now, but not clunky, or ugly. Maybe it’s because I went to school with a [name_f]Frieda[/name_f], though. She wore it just fine, and it didn’t seem weird or old-lady like on her. I wouldn’t mind meeting a little [name_f]Frieda[/name_f], although I’m not sure I can see it on a little girl? I think [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] nn [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] could work, too…

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] clunky names. [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] is great. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Nanette[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Claudette[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Georgeanna[/name_f], [name_f]Georgette[/name_f], [name_f]Benilde[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_u]Columba[/name_u], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Henriette[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Enid[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f], [name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u], [name_u]Abilene[/name_u], [name_f]Primavera[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Aphra[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_f]Eudora[/name_f], [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f], [name_f]Alberta[/name_f], [name_f]Alfreda[/name_f], [name_f]Frederica[/name_f], [name_f]Paulette[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Frieda[/name_f], along with [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f]/[name_u]Francis[/name_u]. A lot of [name_m]German[/name_m] names have a really clunky and heavy sound to them like [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] and [name_f]Bertha[/name_f]. They aren’t my personal favourites though. I like [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] - which I think fits in that category.

A lot of people have commented that Edelweiss sounds very clunky but I think just the opposite! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s long I think this name (pronounced [name_u]Ade[/name_u]-del-vice) flows beautifully!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to add, I don’t think that Edelweiss is a popular or even registered name in Germany. I read a post on this today.

I like [name_f]Freida[/name_f], but I like Elfreida/[name_f]Elfrida[/name_f] even more as it has the mythological/magical vibe while still maintaining its clunk.

More mythological clunk: [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f], [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f], [name_f]Isidora[/name_f], [name_f]Brigida[/name_f], [name_f]Melusine[/name_f], [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Undine[/name_f]/[name_f]Ondine[/name_f].

I love some feminizations I don’t even like the male name for: [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f]/[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] plain clunky (but I love them) - [name_f]Golda[/name_f], [name_f]Eartha[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Drucilla[/name_f].

These are great suggestions, thank you everyone! @raffle, the Eidelweiss song from The Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] is one of my favorite songs ever! I never thought of it as a name. I’m not sure if I’d ever have the gaul to use it, but it’s definitely a guilty pleasure now.

Yeah same here, maybe as a middle name? I really love Edelweiss though and it has a lot of potential nicknames like [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], Vice…
