Colette?

[name]Hi[/name] Berries! I’m loving [name]Colette[/name] lately and was wondering what everyone’s thoughts on it?

I love [name]Colette[/name]. It is my favorite of the “ette” names tied with [name]Odette[/name].

It’s pretty, once knew a girl named [name]Colette[/name] she never seemed to have any problem with it being unusual. She had a sister named [name]Merle[/name] which was also uncommon.

Dislike. It’s my mothers mn and she hated it growing up and still does as an adult. She refuses to even tell people her mn at time. In the French Canadian community it’s an older unfashionable name. I don’t care for [name]Odette[/name] either, same deal. A lot of commons names for French women in their 60s and 70s are becoming popular and I really don’t like it. I know women by both these names.

Sort of agree with tinabina, the downside to [name]Colette[/name] isnt just the fact that it’s dated but that many [name]Colette[/name]'s dislike their name, there is a colette on aufeminin.com who says she doesn’t appreciate being named [name]Colette[/name] and that she’s had difficulties with it. Most of the other reviews say its an awful name

The upside to colette is that it’s the name of an author who’s novel [name]Gigi[/name] was adapted into a film with audrey Hepburn is a great namesake! Americans seem to like the name which is a bonus but should an American colette ever travel to [name]France[/name] some people might assume the parents didn’t know much about the name. Despite these criticisms I could see [name]Colette[/name] making a comeback since older names are coming back in [name]France[/name] but “ette” names aren’t seen as very sophisticated or pretty.

[name]Love[/name] it! FWIW I only know one [name]IRL[/name] and she is a vibrant twenty something. I normally do not like -ette endings, but for [name]Colette[/name] I make an exception.

I think its adorable. And you can use the NN [name]Lettie[/name] when she’s young, which is also adorable.

I kind of like it, and considering all the modern invented names like [name]Nevaeh[/name] and Kynzee I think a [name]Colette[/name] would be pretty sweet.

I love the name and love the connection to the writer. I wouldn’t be put off because the name is currently thought of as old fashioned or not very stylish in [name]France[/name]…I mean, unless you live in [name]France[/name]. Maybe 15 years ago most Americans would sneer at names like [name]Matilda[/name] or [name]Hazel[/name] because they would associate them with older women and maybe find them unfashionable, right? A lot can change in 15 years when it comes to name trends. If you like the sound and the history of the name go for it!!

I really like it! I’ve never met a [name]Colette[/name] (which gives it bonus points from me) but I can picture it on a little girl and an older woman- versatile! I don’t personally like other -ette names but [name]Colette[/name] stands out to me and is on my list!

I like it (& I grew up in [name]France[/name] and don’t find it impossibly dated), but I prefer [name]Odette[/name] or [name]Cosette[/name].
