We are trying to decide between [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] or [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] for our second baby if he’s a boy. I liked [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] more for a long time but now I’m starting to rethink especially since I realized after spending lots of time with my brother [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] that those name are very similar. So now we are leaning toward [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and I’m leaning toward the more popular spelling of [name_m]Colin[/name_m] but my husband thinks [name_m]Collin[/name_m]. Also will it be so annoying for him to always have to spell his name since there are two spellings? Baby’s big brother is [name_m]Trenton[/name_m]. We don’t know for sure if this baby is a little brother but big brother [name_m]Trenton[/name_m] is very convinced and I want a solid name choice for either baby going into birth.
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] looks too much like [name_m]Colon[/name_m] to me…sorry. I think [name_m]Collin[/name_m] is great and shouldn’t be a burden really.
I like Colin! It’s very cute, very classic. I know some really nice Colin’s, and it sounds lovely with big brother’s name.
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] is great!
I love [name_m]Colin[/name_m] or [name_m]Collin[/name_m], great association with the [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Garden book as well as a real person for me
I prefer [name_m]Collin[/name_m]!
I agree that [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] sounds similar to [name_m]Kevin[/name_m], but to me so does [name_m]Colin[/name_m]! Also you could spin [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] as an honour name of sorts for [name_m]Kevin[/name_m]. The two names to me are too close for siblings but fine for an uncle and a nephew.
Apart from that, I like [name_m]Colin[/name_m] fine but I personally prefer [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]. In my experience [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] is less popular than [name_m]Colin[/name_m] so it’s always refreshing to happen upon it (although I see that it’s higher on the SSA list than [name_m]Colin[/name_m], which surprised me!). I think it has a really friendly yet mature feel. As a person who always has to spell out her name for people, I can report that yes, it is a bit annoying (although not the worst fate in the world); however if you do end up going with Col(l)in I would vote that you go with the more popular [name_m]Colin[/name_m] spelling to hopefully reduce misspellings.
Both work next to [name_m]Trenton[/name_m] and with mn [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], and both are good options, you can’t really go wrong!
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] is the more common spelling and the original but I’ve seen both spellings. The -LL- blocks people trying to use the “colon” pronunciation. I like [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] but it is very close to [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] (G and K are similar sounds).
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Collin[/name_m]! I’ve only ever seen it spelled this way. Not a fan of [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] due to a negatigve association, but I also prefer [name_m]Collin[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] over [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u].
I have to spell my first/last name all the time. It doesn’t bother me.
Both are great, but I would choose [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
Not keen on [name_m]Colin[/name_m], ive always thought it a bit dreary, reminds me of an older man from the 70s not a baby or young child. [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] is good.
I like [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] and I don’t think it’s too close to [name_m]Kevin[/name_m]! It may be too close for brothers, but not for nephew and uncle. If it’s the name you’ve always loved, I think it’s worth keeping on the list!
