[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! We are expecting our third boy, and are finding it hard to come up with his name. Our older sons are [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m], and our last name follows the (unintentional) pattern of two syllables, long vowel, short vowel.
We like the lack of obvious nns for our older boys, and don’t care for [name_m]Pete[/name_m], but I’ve always liked [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. My husband favors [name_m]Colin[/name_m], I favor [name_m]Peter[/name_m], but we aren’t sold that either is exactly right for our little guy.
[name_m]Colin[/name_m]! [name_m]Peter[/name_m] isn’t my favorite and he will likely end up as [name_m]Pete[/name_m] or [name_m]Petey[/name_m]. I also think [name_m]Connor[/name_m] works great with [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m]. Good luck!
I would usually always say [name_m]Peter[/name_m] but I think that [name_m]Colin[/name_m] works a bit better. Especially with the lack of an obvious nickname ”
I prefer [name_m]Peter[/name_m] but I do have a soft spot for [name_m]Colin[/name_m] as it is an honour name for me. I also agree with others that [name_m]Colin[/name_m] fits the best with [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m] especially if you prefer full names.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] gets my vote! The (few) young (5- 20 yo) ones I know are never called [name_m]Pete[/name_m]. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] really stands out in a fresh, pleasing way. [name_m]Colin[/name_m] is great too; you can’t go wrong with either one. “Matchiness” is pretty subjective, though. Both names would fit your family and be perfect once the child is here.
I’m going to have to go with [name_m]Colin[/name_m], though [name_m]Peter[/name_m] does not lag behind much. Both would be excellent choices. Maybe wait until you meet him?
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] & [name_m]Ian[/name_m] & [name_m]Colin[/name_m] Sound like “Smart” names, but [name_m]Peter[/name_m] sounds like Odd man out.
Try [name_m]Simon[/name_m] & [name_m]Philip[/name_m], as they also sound “smart”. You could always name him [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m], you could then always call him [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. That is what some call my daughter (by her middle) she likes it just as well! Would be your special “Mom” name. I would start this when he is about 4 so he does know his first name!
