[name]Olive[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name])
[name]Violet[/name]
Greenlee ([name]LOVE[/name])
[name]Ruby[/name] (I have a son named [name]Max[/name] - so that might be a little too much like the cartoon?!)
I hate when you love a name you cant use because of your last!
What do you think? is it too much considering my last name? i mention olive to my husband and his response - [name]Olive[/name] [name]Brown[/name]? you might as well call her diarreah. haha, maybe hes right
I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’ve had issues with names I like rhyming with our last name. Our last name starts with a D, and there are so many three letter words that end with D (mad, bad, sad, etc.), which rules out a lot of names.
What about names that are similar to or along the same lines as the ones you love? Names like [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Violetta[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Opal[/name], or [name]Gemma[/name]. I don’t think Greenlee is as obvious as [name]Olive[/name]. Also, those names in the middle name spot also seem more “ok”.
I’m a color-name lover too, but I’d probably avoid an obvious color name since there are so many other options, and definitely avoid [name]Ruby[/name] with [name]Max[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]!
If you can dig for things evocative of a color, like allusions to gems or flowers that aren’t actual colors, that might help, Or you could use a color name in a different language (like [name]Ciara[/name], which means dark or black, I believe in Gaelic?)
I don’t think you could pull an obvious color, but a more “wordy” color can prevent a [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] situation. [name]Violet[/name] [name]Brown[/name] actually sounds very nice and is completely acceptable [name]IMO[/name].
I laughed when I read you have a [name]Son[/name] named [name]Max[/name], because I was going to suggest [name]Ruby[/name] (one of my faves) but even seeing [name]Ruby[/name] on it’s own I think of the show. I’m a nanny so I watch [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Max[/name] at least twice a week. I personally think it’s funny but not in a bad way! I’m sure that growing up your kids would be thrilled to have a show about them! Cute!
The other names don’t seem to work with [name]Brown[/name]. I don’t think she’d get teased by her peers but her teachers may or may not smile when they read [name]Violet[/name] [name]Brown[/name] on a roster. You might get away with [name]Olive[/name] but I don’t like how it sounds with [name]Brown[/name]. I think [name]Olivia[/name] sounds great. Are you nervous about how popular it is?
I don’t like Greenlee at all so I’m no help there!
I definitely wouldn’t put two colour names together. Too descriptive… [name]Olive[/name] [name]Brown[/name] does makes for a pretty unattractive colour combo, too, unless you’re talking about hazel eyes or something.
I don’t think [name]Violet[/name] is that bad with [name]Brown[/name]. I prefer it to [name]Olive[/name] in this situation, that’s for sure.
Greenlee [name]Brown[/name] sounds awful to me. At least with [name]Olive[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name], they aren’t like, “magic marker” colours where you just get the basic red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black. [name]Green[/name] really sticks out as a colour in this case.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Brown[/name] doesn’t flow very well to me, but it isn’t the worst. [name]Max[/name] & [name]Ruby[/name] go together well stylistically, and since I don’t have kids, I don’t think of the show, but I bet all the parents and kids you meet on the playground will.
thanks everyone. and yes i do not like olivia - just too popular for me! although its a gorgeous name, but i know too many who were born in the past few years!
i do love these names, but with so many other names out there, i know i can find something that works better with our last name!
I think you could get away with using [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Brown[/name]. I think [name]Olive[/name] or Greenlee [name]Brown[/name] might be a bit much.
I think you might be able to get away with [name]Violet[/name] - not so much with any of the others. I love a previous poster’s suggestion of [name]Opal[/name] - could be a good replacement for [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Olive[/name], being a gem name beginning in O with a vintage feel.
I think it could work out fine - [name]Lavender[/name] [name]Brown[/name] in [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] jumps to mind. [name]Violet[/name] [name]Brown[/name] seems fine to me, but I think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Max[/name] might be a bit of a stretch. I don’t like [name]Olive[/name] [name]Brown[/name], and not sure how I feel about Greenlee.
Okay, so I was named after a color ([name]Amber[/name]) and I named my daughter [name]Olive[/name] Greenlee, actually! I was worried it was too much but it’s just so pretty on her. Although, we don’t have a color last name…that might be a bit much!
I love [name]Violet[/name] [name]Brown[/name], without a middle name it just flows so well and I’m not even a colour-name fan! Greenlee is not a name I’ve heard before and that also fits [name]Both[/name] good choices.
I know how you feel ! My last name is Waye, so everything i tried sounded like a street name lol I don’t mind Greenlee [name]Brown[/name] actually. To me the " lee " sound balances out the first/last name.
