Color names?

I love color names like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] but last name sounds like “hues”. Would that be too weird?

I think it depends on how ‘established’ the name is and how closely associated it is with the color - for example, I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] ‘Hues’ works well but [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] ‘Hues’ maybe less so.

I think people would notice, but I don’t think it would be weird. I’m sure you’d get a question or two about the connection and whether it was intentional or not.

Thanks for the responses! SO really likes [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] but I wasn’t convinced it wouldn’t lead to teasing. I do like it too though. Who would have thought that a common last name could cause such funny wordplay. Lol
He likes [name_m]Cassius[/name_m] too but I wouldn’t use it because “[name_m]Cash[/name_m] ‘Hues’”. He thinks it’s funny, of course.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of color names that may not be as obvious?
WDYT of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] “Hues”?

I don’t think the surname would be an issue. I also love color names.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] Hues works fine.

[name_u]Cerulean[/name_u]
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f]
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ebony[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_f]Amber[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]

I think it’s fine. I think [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] work fine with Hues and I love [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]!

My suggestions:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]
[name_f]Cerise[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]

I don’t think it would be odd, especially since in writing it wouldn’t literally be Hues, right?

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] Hyooz isn’t going to make people go LOL OMG WHAT ON [name_f]EARTH[/name_f].

I like your original list of colour names, especially [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], but I also like:

[name_f]Cerise[/name_f]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_m]Celadon[/name_m]
Amaranth and Amaranthine
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]

I think it really depends on the name. I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] Hues sound fine but [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] Hues sounds a bit strange to me. Not sure why…maybe the longer syllable names?

Other color names that came to mind were

[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Bruna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]

My cousin had a good friend named [name_f]Turquoise[/name_f] when we were young and I had a college friend named [name_u]Peri[/name_u], which was short for [name_f]Peridot[/name_f] but could also work for Periwinkle

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! I’m loving them

Water-related names like [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Marin[/name_f], and [name_m]Corentin[/name_m] and nature names like [name_u]Denali[/name_u] and [name_u]Everest[/name_u] also appeal to me as sibsets with our [name_u]Indigo[/name_u].
