Colored Names: Anyone else experiencing this?

Going along with the colors to a name trend.

Does anyone else envision names in their head with patterns? For example, [name]Annie[/name] is light pink with green spots, or [name]Anastasia[/name] is blue-gray flower print?

Am I crazy???

Also, the colors in my head for each name are incredibly vivid, I barely have to think to find out what color they are…

Thete is actually a term for that medically/psycologically but I forget the term. I have a version because I experience it with numbers and musical tones. Not with names though, but I do understand to a degree.

I do this! It’s called synesthesia, and I have a very mild form of it. I know exactly what you’re talking about. My own name, [name]Rachel[/name], is a really dark eggplant purple. [name]Jane[/name] is a light blue, [name]David[/name] is a forest green, [name]Brittany[/name] is blue…I get that all of the time!

I don’t see patterns, but colors for words and tastes for names and phantom smells for words sometimes…haha, it seems synesthesia is more common with creative languagey sorts, although its probably the vividness of words that cause the correlation.

Luckily, I don’t have very vivid experiences for my own name, like immunity lol. E names are the strongest for me, very purple and grape.
Y names are snow.

You’re not alone

I think I do have mild synesthesia, I also experience colors when I eat stuff sometimes. I read a book about synesthesia called A [name]Mango[/name] Shaped Space by [name]Wendy[/name] Mass. It’s a kids’ book but it is really good, I recommend it

lineska- My name doesn’t really have a color to me either, but i guess if I had to choose one it would be sage green.

I absolutely do it with names. Not all names have colours to me but most do!

What I really meant by my question is, does anyone else see patterns in names?

I notice that certain many types of names with “cool colors”, while some are associated with “warm colors”. Many times I associate a certain name with a “swirly mixture” of 2 or more colors. For instance, my favorite girl’s name [name]Lilith[/name], I picture a mixture of fuschia and blood red.

Interesting…

Oh my God. This a real thing? I thought I was just crazy. This is awesome news!

Synesthesia is very real! Check out American Synesthesia Association to find out more…

I’ve heard of synesthesia before. Some people have the same kind of reaction with numbers and months/days of the week, etc.

Some names have colors to me, particularly flower names (like, I see [name]Iris[/name] as lilac, white and green; [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] are green; [name]Daisy[/name] is yellow…), but most don’t.

I thought I was the only one! But I see more than just colors and for more than just names. I see colors, shapes, vivid pictures, places/locations, nature stuff(flowers, grassy fields, etc.) I can also feel the emotion and vibe/aura of things. I don’t even have to think about it, it just happens. I didn’t know that there was a name for it or that it was even a “thing”.

I remember posting a long while ago now, asking those with grapheme colour synesthesia if the colours they perceived a name to be, influenced their naming decisions at all.

EG. A name combination not working for them, not because of flow but because the colours next to each other weren’t pleasing. Or maybe the flow of a name could be more harmonious based on the perception of its colour…

Its a little tricky trying to articulate what I’m getting at!

I get what your saying. Like if I see a color that I don’t like when I hear/see a name or if I feel an emotion or vibe I don’t like then It’ll cause me to not like the name. It happens for lots of different things for me like inanimate objects, numbers, days, words, etc. Like my favorite number is 4 because I like the vibe I get from it and the color I see(pink, my fav). It’s really hard to explain and put into words.

It is all letters and colors for me. Names are dominantly the first letter’s color, usually, but sometimes several colors together. If there’s a long vowel sound in the name it can be very powerful. A-G are strongest - most consistent - other letters near them sometimes take on their colors - and I wonder if it has to do with years of music practice with mild synesthesia there reinforcing it.

I do have this for words too, but it is much stronger with names.

A - red
B - black
C - medium blue
D - brown
E - white and black together (hard to describe)
F - purplish pink (fuchsia?)
G - greenish grey
H - orange
I - white and black together (but lighter than E)
J - dark blue (but this one is weaker than most)
K - yellow
L - light yellow and medium green together
M - medium pink
N - brown
O - black
P - bluish gray (also pretty weak, like J)
Q - blue-black (also pretty weak)
R - purple-black-red altogether (also pretty weak)
S - light pink
T - blue and yellow together
U - slate blue
V - medium green
W - purple blue
X - white and yellow (weaker)
Y - Yellow
Z - black and white together

I don’t see colors with many names, but some names do seem to be certain colors. Mostly what I see with names are pictures. Some are very vivid and specific. For instance, a name that has recently made my list is [name]Callie[/name]. I picture a little girl in a blue gingham dress climbing a tree behind a farmhouse. Weird, I know, but most of my favorite names have a picture with them. The names that don’t, just don’t stick in my head very well.

Yes!! I have mild synesthesia too!! And I sometime see patterns or a specific picture when I see or hear a certain name.

By the way, genevieve!, for some reason when I see the name [name]Genevieve[/name] I see the picture of your little angel avatar, and that started happening before I saw it!!

~[name]Jasmine[/name]

Aw, thanks! I didn’t like my avatar at first but now it’s grown on me.

I completely understand this, it happens to me all the time. Sometimes I fall in love with a combination not necessarily because I particularly like the names individually, but because their colours and feels compliment each other so well. For example, the combo [name]Lily[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] is beautiful to me because [name]Lily[/name] is almost white with pastel blue and green accents, whereas [name]Beatrice[/name] has stronger, autumn leafy colours, and the two contrast perfectly in my mind
