Combining Middle Names

We have two, very common, family middle names: [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] of our mothers have the middle name [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], but the middle name [name_f]Marie[/name_f] has been passed down for three generations (skipping my mother). What do you think about combining the two into Marielynn. Too long and awkward? Any suggestions on combining the two?

I think it’s a little awkward. You could just use [name_f]Marie[/name_f] for one daughter and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] for the other.

It does sounds a little awkward. Have you thought about using [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]? What about a hyphenated name like [name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f]?

Marielynn sounds weird and made-up. I second the idea about using [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], seems like the easiest solution.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about something a little less intuitive but still fitting, like [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f], but I know many have mixed reactions to that name. So I think [name_f]Maren[/name_f] (or [name_f]Marin[/name_f]) would be a cute alternative. I guess you could always just use the names individually, but honestly I’m not a fan of using such common middle names, even if they are family related. I think it would be really cool to find a fresh way to incorporate both.

Another vote for [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f].

[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] will be the easiest. Other option, [name_f]Malia[/name_f]?

I agree with everyone, [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] would be the best option.

[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] would be the easiest, but since it’s not my favorite name, I’d probably do another combination. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Marin[/name_f] above. Some others: Marlies, [name_f]Marly[/name_f], Limarie, [name_f]Marielle[/name_f], and [name_f]Muriel[/name_f].
