I’m trying to come up with middle name options for our 2nd child (if it’s a girl - a boy will have my maiden name for a middle, as per family tradition). Our daughter’s middle name is [name]Lucille[/name] after my grandmother. (I kind of only have one because my mom is estranged from her mother.) We have considered using either [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Ada[/name] after one of DH’s grandmothers, but I don’t want one of them to feel left out. [name]Do[/name] you think the name [name]Adele[/name] could be used to honor both [name]Ad[/name]a and Helen? Is it too cheesy to combine names like that? I legitimately like the name [name]Adele[/name] on it’s own, and it has a similar vintage feel to [name]Lucille[/name]. Another name I though of is [name]Pauline[/name], because DH’s godfather is named [name]Paul[/name]. Then I realized, if spelled [name]Paulene[/name] (although I prefer the other spelling), it could be for [name]Paul[/name] (his godfather) and [name]Arlene[/name] (his godmother). [name]Pauline[/name] is also a French name like the others, so I’m liking how they all fit together. I just don’t know if it’s too corny an idea, and if we use those names I really want the people they’re named after to feel honored. Anyone have opinions on this?
I like the idea of using [name]Adele[/name] to honor [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Helen[/name]. I’m not the biggest fan of [name]Paulene[/name] though; it’s very dated, and I personally wouldn’t want to be named [name]Paulene[/name]. [name]Adele[/name] is far prettier.
[name]Adele[/name]! I feel like it’s a recognizable way to honor both names and it doesn’t feel forced. [name]Love[/name] it.
I love [name]Adele[/name], and think it’s darling way to honor two important women in your husbands life.
[name]Pauline[/name] is beautiful, but [name]Paulene[/name] feels tortured. Could the similar sounding ending be enough of
a nod to her or is the [name]Paul[/name]- part of [name]Pauline[/name] too dominant?
I get what you’re saying about the name being dated. It is. But, honestly, so is [name]Lucille[/name]. [name]Adele[/name] is only becoming popular again because of the singer, but a few years ago would have been considered very old-fashioned. I certainly wouldn’t use it as a first name, but for a middle I’m okay with it being an old-lady name. In our family, we choose middle names to follow tradition and honor the people we love more than for the sound. My DH’s grandfather’s middle name is Sartwell. No one in the fam is going to bat an eye at [name]Pauline[/name]. LOL!
I agree, I don’t really like the spelling [name]Paulene[/name], but it is an accepted spelling. I like the look of -line ending names much better. [name]Do[/name] you think his godmother would still understand that we were thinking of her in the naming, even if the spelling wasn’t reminiscent of her name? The sound is there.
I think [name]Adele[/name] works great! I also think [name]Helena[/name] would work.
I love it! [name]Pauline[/name] is nice too, but I prefer [name]Adele[/name] as a first name.
I prefer [name]Adele[/name] as a first, but it might be too connected to the singer. I like the [name]Paulene[/name] spelling better, but have you considered using two middles to honor everyone?
I think [name]Adele[/name] works great for your situation. The double middle of [name]Ada[/name] [name]Helen[/name] would be pretty cute too! [name]Helena[/name] is also nice, but [name]Ada[/name] doesn’t feel as much a part of it.
Thanks for your input, everyone! I’m not considering either of these names as a first name, just to clear that up. These are strictly middles. And I’m not trying to honor all 4 people with 1 child’s name. That would be too much! [name]Just[/name] trying to come up with a few options that would be as meaningful as our first daughter’s middle name. We haven’t picked a definite first name yet, so options are good! Also, I know many Berries tend to be fans of the double middle name, but we definitely won’t choose that option. It’s just not our thing
[name]Helena[/name] is a nice suggestion. I like that it has a similar meaning to [name]Lucille[/name]. I think I still prefer [name]Adele[/name] on it’s own, but it will really depend on what sounds best with the first name.
