[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,
DH and I have had a big chat about names and whittled down my HUGE long lists to much shorter ones.
Was wondering what combos you would come up with from the following names. They need to go with my daughter’s name ([name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u]) and our surname, [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]. As you can see we tend to like ‘a’ or ‘ia’ endings for girls and ‘us’ endings for boys which makes pairing a bit more tricky.
My first thoughts on name combos are in my sig.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you say [name_f]Mila[/name_f]? My-la or Meel-a? That would make a difference in my opinion since My-la and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] are a bit too close for sibs, similar to Meel-a and [name_f]Thea[/name_f].
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Octavian[/name_m]
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] (may be very "s"y with your last name).
I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] as a first name. Especially with [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Octavian[/name_m]!
Since [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is off my list I’ going to campaign heavily for you to use this! My favourites for [name_f]Mila[/name_f]'s sibling is [name_f]Isis[/name_f] and [name_u]Loki[/name_u], I love four letter names!
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - All of your MNs have a lot of “L’s” so I don’t think they sound the best with [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Isis[/name_f].
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] - So handsome! I like [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] too.
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - I like alliteration.
[name_m]Nelson[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
Other combos I like:
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] [name_f]Callia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]/[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
**[name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Valentin[/name_m]/ [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]/ [name_m]Felix[/name_m] ** My fave boy name
Thanks all. [name_f]Jeanne[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is pronounced Mee-la.
Question: Is [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] to rhyme-y with [name_f]Mila[/name_f]? I also wonder if [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] are too similar. My other thought is, does this baby’s name need to be relatively short because [name_f]Mila[/name_f]'s is? I don’t mean just the first name but the number of syllables in the first and second together.
Going to print off this thread and have a proper look through all the suggestions
I think you’re right about [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] saracita. Though I’m really attached to [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], may keep it on the middle list for now. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Octavius[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] from your boy combos. I have a feeling this little one is a boy, too
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] has exotic European flair and [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is a unisex gem so it would be nice for her sister or brother to have a great blend too. I would eliminate [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] from consideration as they’re both too similar in sound to [name_f]Mila[/name_f].
GIRLS
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - a little more exotic than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - one of the more exotic flower choices but a little matchy with [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (two-syllable names with pronounced l’s and ending in “a”)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - has vintage charm but not very exotic. Again it has the similarity ([name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would begin a pattern) [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - unusual [name_m]Roman[/name_m] gem [name_f]Isis[/name_f] - if you want something totally different
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] - reminds me of snake (Viper)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - this is pretty
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] - this name is trendy but I think it’s still rare enough to use. It does have a similarity to [name_f]Mila[/name_f] though (see [name_f]Calla[/name_f])
The only mn I like on your list is [name_f]Elowen[/name_f].
BOYS:
I would elimate [name_m]Nelson[/name_m] and [name_m]Claudius[/name_m] (too clunky), [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (trendy), [name_u]Loki[/name_u] (a trickster god and it’s too cutesy to take seriously) and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (just odd) as first names.
[name_m]Octavius[/name_m]/[name_m]Octavian[/name_m] - I’m not sure which version I prefer. They’re both pretty awesome. Combo Suggestions: [name_m]Octavius[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_m]Octavian[/name_m] [name_u]Pascoe[/name_u]. [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] - I really love this name! [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] would be awesome! [name_m]Rouvin[/name_m] - I think this looks and sounds wonderful with [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. It’s unexpected but they work together. [name_m]Rouvin[/name_m] [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] would be wonderful!
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m] contains a “clawd” sound so I find it clunky compared to [name_m]Octavius[/name_m]/[name_m]Octavian[/name_m] which just roll off the tongue. Does that make sense?
I absolutely [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] as a sibset! [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] makes me think of the very pretty woman in the new [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] movies. [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] [name_f]Callia[/name_f] would be lovely. I also really love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], but I don’t think it flows particularly well with anything from your fn list.
For boys my choice would be [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. I think it sounds fantastic with [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. Though I would probably go with a one syllable middle with it, and you don’t really seem to be a fan of short names From your list I like the combo [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Pascoe[/name_u] the best.
And I think as long as you don’t name your second something like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], the length of the names shouldn’t matter.
Leahmarie - I love one syllable names, but they’ve all been vetoed by DH! I was gunning for [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_m]Fox[/name_m] or [name_u]Bay[/name_u] as potential boy middles.
Lol Leahmarie, I agree! [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] would be fabulous.
Judyariel - I like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Lotus[/name_f] and [name_m]Octavian[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] from your suggestions. I think I am leaning more towards [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], though.
I also like mischa’s idea of a relatively unisex middle for a girl, but I’m struggling to think of many that I like.
