I love [name]Annelise[/name], and I knew one when I was younger. That never crossed my mind; I just heard her name. However, that isn’t to say some kid won’t think of it. Kids can come up with something for almost any name. I think [name]Annelise[/name] is gorgeous, and considered it for #1. ([name]Annabelle[/name] won out for family meaning.)
I say it more like ann-ah-leess, or anna-lees, like the eese sound when you say geese. Terrible at getting pronunciations across in type, but I love this name <3 I think you are over thinking it!!! I have loved this name for 4 years and never made that connection!
I, too, am coming back to [name]Annelise[/name] ([name]Anneliese[/name]). I couldn’t get over it looking like analyze. But I’m falling in love with it all over again. It’s so beautiful.
I love [name]Annelise[/name] and don’t make the connection either. But if it really bothers you, you could consider using the original [name]German[/name] pronunciation of ahn-uh-lees-uh.
I love the name and remember reading that online (people commenting it reminded them of anal ease…usually the analise spelling).
I prefer the spelling [name]Anneliese[/name], which distances from that association. Gorgeous name! For what its worth, when we considered the name for my second daughter, I asked the only [name]Anneliese[/name] I know about the anal ease thing. She is 34 and it was the first time she had ever heard about the possible association, she looked at me like I was crazy, haha. So it’s safe to say she was never teased about it growing up.
I adore the pronunciation ahn-uh-leese and/or ahn-uh-lees-uh. We were going to use the ahn-uh-leese pronunciation; I didn’t think it sounded like anal at all.
In [name]America[/name], [name]Annalise[/name] might be pronounced analyze.
[name]Annalise[/name] seems to be the Americanized version of [name]Annaliese[/name].
[name]Annaliese[/name], [name]Heidi[/name],…etc are all very [name]German[/name] sounding names.
Keep in mind that when you choose a very [name]German[/name] you can’t really choose a very French, or Japanese sounding names without it sounding strange.
Thank you! This definitely helps! And i agree, the spelling with the e vs. a helps a lot. Right now [name]Sonja[/name] is my front runner but [name]Annelise[/name] is coming up the rankings!
I pronounce it with a short A like [name]Anna[/name] rather than the long A of anal. And the second syllable like lease (as in lease a car).
I am personally very bothered by “sound alike” names to unpleasant words, and this one doesn’t even hit my radar so I think you’re overthinking it.
I’ve known several [name]Sonia[/name]'s in my life, but I’ve only ever met one [name]Anneliese[/name]. (of any spelling). I’ve never met anyone who spells [name]Sonja[/name] with the j, but that’s because all the one’s I’ve known have been Latin American.
I have to be perfectly honest about this, I’m sorry if it bursts your bubble at all. When I was in college there was a girl I knew named [name]Annelise[/name], who had a bit of a reputation. All the guys called her (please forgive me, it’s terrible) ‘anal release’ behind her back. I’ve never been able to get over this association.
It’s a survey actual Annelieses have taken regarding their name. I think it’s a very useful tool.
Either way, I never would have thought of “anal ease” if I had never joined a name forum, and that still doesn’t keep me from loving it now. [name]Anneliese[/name] is gorgeous, and I think [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Anneliese[/name] would be gorgeous as sisters.
