do you guys think that [name]Ava[/name] is a common name? I just don’t hear about that name that often.
Yes, of course it’s common assuming you’re in the States. It’s been in the top 10 for the last seven years. That said, I wouldn’t say it’s as common as [name]Aidan[/name] or something where there are a ton of similar names.
It is common, but still lovely!
[name]Ava[/name] has been the 5th most popular name the last 4 years, so I would say yes. I have a 5 year old niece named [name]Ava[/name], along with knowing a few others. It is a beautiful name though!
Statistically, [name]Ava[/name] is a popular name, though only among the youngest generation - it’s only been high on the popularity charts the last decade or so. It might be that it’s not as common in your area though - if you’re in the US, each state has it’s own chart of popularity, which you could check out to see how popular it is among girls that you’re likely to encounter.
Although it’s ‘common’ I have yet to meet a single one.
I’m in Massachusetts and I have been to several play groups that had 2 or more [name]Ava[/name]'s under the age of 4.
It’s quite common. You could check the SSA and look up [name]Ava[/name]- It’s pretty high up on the list.
Some less common variations are:
[name]Aveline[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name] (gorgeous name- means “island of apples”)
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Aviana[/name]
I do not know an [name]Ava[/name] personally (though I know two Averys that go by it under the age of five). However, I’m not that involved with younger children.
Since 2008 [name]Ava[/name] has maintained number 7 (the national average has it at rank 5), so it isn’t as popular here. However, in [name]Alabama[/name], [name]Ava[/name] was number 2 this past year. In [name]California[/name], it’s rank 12. It depends on where you live.
If you are talking about mentions of [name]Ava[/name] on Nameberry, you won’t find many. This is due to berries’ taste in names that usually is more exotic or unusual. It’s not a name that’s made up ([name]Nevaeh[/name]), misspelled ([name]Jayden[/name]) or influenced by popular culture ([name]Isabella[/name]), and so it is considered just a normal name. No one bashes it as much as some of the other top names.
in the UK it is very popular, there were three Avas at playgroup last week. But it is a lovely name so I see why it is so popular.
It could vary depending on where you live, but it most places in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name] it is pretty common. I have a niece named [name]Ava[/name], and I am sure she is one of many in her class.
Same with me! Lol
I haven’t met any littles named [name]Ava[/name] either! I would like to point out that even though names on the girls list like [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], etc. are high on the list, there are actually fewer babies being given the top names than there were when names like [name]Jennifer[/name] or [name]Mary[/name] were in the top. Many of the names have been on the list for several years, which is something to keep in mind, but I don’t think name popularity should deter one that much if you’ve found a name you love.
The way I see it: you can set a parameter before you start looking for names (ex. “I am not going to consider any names in the top 200”), but if you’ve already found a name (ex. “[name]Sophia[/name] is the most gorgeous, perfect name, and I can’t imagine my daughter being anything else” or “I’ve loved [name]Sophia[/name] since I was a teenager, vowed I would name my first daughter [name]Sophia[/name], and still love the name”) only to later find out it is popular, I don’t think you should change your mind
It’s very popular here and there are other popular names I like better.
I wouldn’t consider sheer popularity a deal-breaker if I adored a name, but with a name as popular as [name]Ava[/name] is, I would only go with it if it wouldn’t bother me if there were three in her class and if upon introducing her to people everyone says “oh, my sister/cousin/hairdresser/whatever just had one…”
Yes. I can think of four Avas under 15 that I know, and I’m not a mom. If I were around school age kids more I’d probably know a lot more of them.
I just did a quick check, in 2011 in [name]Alberta[/name] where I live, [name]Ava[/name] was number 5 for girls names. There were 201 [name]Ava[/name]'s born in 2011, out of a total of 50,000+ babies. 201 is really just a drop in a very very big bucket!!
There are at least 10 Avas under the age of 5 in my town…and I live in a tiny suburb. Not to mention the plethora of Hollywood stars with Avas as daughters. [name]May[/name] I suggest Aven or [name]Avalon[/name] instead?
