Hello!
So, as you all know, the 2020 SSA list came out recently, and I decided to do a little analysis comparing the Rhode Island (my state) top 100 names and the national list. It’s a lot of fun to do with a state like Rhode Island because, as the population is so much smaller than states like California or Florida, the list tends to be pretty different from the list for the whole USA. I hope you enjoy looking at the changes as much as I did! Without further ado, here we go!
This is the sheet where I compared the rankings of all the names in the RI top 100 with their rankings overall

I might have missed a few on the boys’ side for the second comparison but I’ve looked over the list so many times ![]()
Anyway! I’ve really enjoyed doing this and I recommend that y’all take a look at your state’s data if you haven’t already, especially if you live in a small state like I do where the lists tend to differ more. For example, if I had a kid this year they’d be more likely to have an Amari in their class than a Silas or Jace, which you wouldn’t assume just from looking at the national list.
I also find it interesting to look at unique state trends! Rhode Island has a high Italian and Portuguese population, so it makes sense why names like Lorenzo, Enzo, Amari, Angelina, and Juliana rank significantly higher here than they do nationally.
Thank you for reading!
