Complete my top 10!

As I’ve mentioned in a few threads already, I’ve been doubting the last two spots on my short list, but I’d like to keep it to an even top 10, so I’m looking for substitutes. The shortlist right now is [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Asher[/name] ([name]Ash[/name]), [name]Jack[/name], [name]Grayson[/name] ([name]Gray[/name]), [name]Avery[/name], [name]Brody[/name], and [name]Bailey[/name].

I’ve been thinking of these as replacements–wdyt? [name]Do[/name] any of them fit with my top 8? Or any new suggestions? I know it’s a lot, but I’m struggling to find inspiration.

[name]Boaz[/name] (nn [name]Beau[/name]/[name]Bo[/name]?)
[name]Judah[/name] “[name]Jude[/name]”
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name] “[name]Toby[/name]”
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] “[name]Sam[/name]”
[name]Leo[/name]

Thanks, ladies!

My two favorites from your list are [name]Atticus[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name]. Some other ones might be:

  • [name]Nathaniel[/name]
  • [name]Eli[/name]
  • [name]Hudson[/name]
  • [name]Levi[/name]
  • [name]Caleb[/name]
  • [name]Finn[/name]

I would keep [name]Brody[/name] and add [name]Spencer[/name].

[name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] have each other as Biblical classics, five of the rest are surname(y) brothers, leaving poor [name]Jack[/name] on his own as an english given name  (I joke, your names are all beautifully quintessential American names, but it was somewhere to start from!)

I like [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name], for keeping [name]Jack[/name] company; possibly with a slight bias towards [name]Oliver[/name] since there are already 3 -y names on your list

[name]Zane[/name] is my definite second pick of the ones you’ve listed: simple, straightforward all-American name with a both a literary and a bit of a boyish Western kick- seems to epitomize your style (and in a very, very good way). Have you seen the Syfy series Eureka? There’s also a really appealing [name]Zane[/name] on that show

[name]Leo[/name]/[name]Leon[/name]/[name]Leopold[/name] and [name]Linus[/name] together made me wonder if you’d considered [name]Lionel[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]? I find [name]Lionel[/name] a more friendly option than either [name]Leon[/name] or [name]Leopold[/name], and it has both American roots ([name]Lionel[/name] Barrymore, [name]Lionel[/name] [name]Hampton[/name]), and if I remember correctly, is a minor figure in Arthurian legend (I think he has his own ballad or two)- which combined sort of seems to fit both with the ones you have and some of the others on your long list ([name]Tristan[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name]).

Aw, I love so many of these; [name]Boaz[/name], [name]Judah[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Declan[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Atticus[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Killian[/name]. I don’t mind most of the others as middle names.

Of the ones listed above I think [name]Declan[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] fit the best. I think [name]Benedict[/name] is a great fit too.

I could definitely image a [name]Declan[/name] alongside [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Jack[/name] etc.

Other ideas…
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Lennon[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Flynn[/name] (I could so imagine a [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finlay[/name] with [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Asher[/name] etc.)
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Francis[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Alden[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Roscoe[/name]
[name]Bryce[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
Carrick
[name]Fletcher[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Eaden[/name]/[name]Eden[/name]

Where do you stand with [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name] these days?

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Silas[/name]. It’s one of my top 10’s!

From your list I think [name]Zane[/name] and [name]Judah[/name] go really well. 2 others I would add are [name]Gabriel[/name] (nn [name]Gabe[/name]) as mentioned by sheflieswithherownwings; and I like [name]Finnegan[/name] (nn [name]Finn[/name]) for you. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!

Oh [name]Ash[/name] you have so many great names here! I cannot pick just two!!! I think all of these would be great fits but I think these few would really fit well

[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]

If I had to go with just 2 I guess I would pick [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Zane[/name].

@maple_blythe - Yeah, lately I was thinking [name]Oliver[/name] would make a good fit! Gives [name]Jack[/name] a bit of company, too. I had thought lately that most of my favorites were soft surnamey choices, with the exception of Biblical [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Asher[/name], but I didn’t even think of [name]Jack[/name], haha. I’m not sure about [name]Oliver[/name], as [name]Olivia[/name]'s firmly set on my top 3, has been for probably 3 years now. I really don’t see that changing, which is why I haven’t added [name]Oliver[/name] yet even though I’ve really grown to love it. I thought maybe I could get away with it as a MN, though? And yes, lol, I’m a big Eureka fan! [name]Love[/name] [name]Zane[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]. Which is sort of why [name]Donovan[/name]'s up there, too…

@liz - [name]Gabriel[/name]‘s off the table for now, I like [name]Daniel[/name] and [name]Samuel[/name] more and I feel like I shouldn’t have too many of the -el Biblical boys’ names! I’m torn about [name]Elijah[/name], though… in the past couple months I’ve learned of ANOTHER [name]Elijah[/name] to be born, so I feel like it’s just so overdone in my area that I should try and avoid it, but I love it so much. And in church today there was a part of the sermon about [name]Elijah[/name] and it just clicked, and I was like, “Why wasn’t that on my list of possibilities?!” haha. So I think I’ll add it. I don’t love [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name] as brothers, though, and one of my other hesitations is that [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Elias[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] is still my top boys’ name and I don’t see that changing, and I feel weird about using [name]Elias[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name]… I had considered a lot of the ones you suggested, too ([name]Oscar[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Harper[/name], [name]Emmett[/name], etc! I am really growing to be fond of [name]Emmett[/name], but I don’t think I could give up my beloved [name]Everett[/name]. :)).

I need to go through and see if I can edit out some of the ones I don’t really love, I’m just not sure any of them are really wowing me enough to be top 10 material right now…

While I’m here, what does everyone think of [name]Boaz[/name] individually? I have always LOVED the story of [name]Boaz[/name] and [name]Ruth[/name], my nana’s name was [name]Ruth[/name], so I guess [name]Boaz[/name] could be a sort of roundabout tribute to her, and I think [name]Boaz[/name] is a great Biblical namesake, but I’m just concerned it’s too weird next to my other favorites. Could [name]Boaz[/name] work as a name? What in the world would you pair it with?

I really like these from your list:

[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]

I would add [name]Tobin[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] to your list, maybe [name]Simon[/name] if I could add a third. I love [name]Oliver[/name], but it clashes with [name]Olivia[/name] too much and I know that’s one of your set names. I can’t wait to see what you choose! I love your naming style

My fav 2… probably [name]Tobin[/name] and [name]Linus[/name]! I also have [name]Benedict[/name] on my own list, because I think it makes a great mn.
[name]Linus[/name] [name]Benedict[/name] I think is amazing!

I like [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]!

My favorites from your list are [name]Boaz[/name] and [name]Zane[/name]. I really like [name]Boaz[/name] for the Bible character, but I’ve never liked the nn [name]Bo[/name]. If I did, it would definitely be on my list. I’ve loved [name]Zane[/name] for a long time now, but my hubby doesn’t so I just have to suggest it to others and live vicariously through them

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bo[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] would be cheesy? [name]Isabelle[/name] is firmly set as my top girls’ name, has been for at least 2 1/2 years now, so I really don’t see it changing… and I like [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Belle[/name] the best for nns, trendy as they are. With [name]Belle[/name] and [name]Beau[/name] being the feminine and masculine (respectively) forms for the French word “beautiful”, do you think it’d be too close? I thought it was less noticeable with [name]Boaz[/name] than some other names (especially if I spell it [name]Bo[/name] over [name]Beau[/name]), but I’m still not sure I could use it.

Thanks, ladies! I’m starting to narrow down this list even more, I’ve updated the thread to show the ones still in consideration. I’m still taking suggestions, if you have any fabulous ones.

I love [name]Linus[/name] [name]Benedict[/name]! I had considered it before, actually–my grandfather was L. B. (no full name, just the initials), so I thought of it in honor of him, but [name]Linus[/name] Torvalds’ name is [name]Linus[/name] [name]Benedict[/name], so I’m not sure if that should be a deal-breaker?

My favorites from your list are [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Simon[/name] but they aren’t the same style as most of your other names.

If you want something to go with [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Asher[/name] ([name]Ash[/name]), [name]Jack[/name], [name]Grayson[/name] ([name]Gray[/name]), [name]Avery[/name], [name]Brody[/name], and [name]Bailey[/name], I would pick [name]Spencer[/name] & [name]Elijah[/name].

The only one I don’t like is [name]Benedict[/name]. I live in the US and that name is kind of off limits here because of [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arnold[/name].

I agree. :frowning: That’s why I took [name]Simon[/name] off–that, and I’m not sure I love it. It just seems to be a different style, and I like how my favorites seem to work together even though they mesh several styles. [name]Oliver[/name]'s still up there, I just really like it right now, although I bet it’ll be down soon, too, seeing that [name]Olivia[/name]'s still so high on my list.

I am in [name]America[/name] and I used to associate [name]Benedict[/name] with Mr. [name]Arnold[/name], but lately I think of its beautiful meaning, the several popes with the name [name]Benedict[/name], and English actor [name]Benedict[/name] Cumberbatch all before [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arnold[/name] (sometimes even eggs [name]Benedict[/name], too). I used to know a guy named [name]Benedict[/name], and he never seemed to have any problems with it. Which is why I’m considering it. It sounds so smart and distinguished to me, too, which is one of the reasons I love it. Not that I need another “B” name on my list… I already have [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Brody[/name]…
