My SO and I are expecting our second in [name_u]March[/name_u] (our first being [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]). I’ve been keeping a list of girl names that I really like for ages now and I recently shared it with him and he HATED every single name. Names like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], Lavinia, Geneva, and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I also have a list that I have yet to run by him that consists of [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f].
He told me the other day that all I ever suggest are what he considers “obscure” names and wishes I would suggest more “regular” names (which I think he means traditional? Who knows? lol)
So I’m completely at a loss and would loooove suggestions that maybe are similar to the names I liked, while also filling his requirement of the name not being so obscure. I really like classical, girly names, and I also really like the V sound, though not necessarily as the first letter. I really dislike names like [name_u]Kiley[/name_u], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Miley[/name_f], Emma, etc.
With [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] it was so easy to pick her name out. I knew since high school that I wanted to name my first daughter that and luckily he loved it the first time I suggested it. This time is going to be a struggle, I can already tell.
Luckily we have agreed on two things, the first being that this baby will have two middle names like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]; family names), and that one of those middle names will be [name_u]Jean[/name_u] after my great-grandmother who passed away last year.
Wow, it is amazing how similar your story is to mine. My husband thinks my suggestions are “obscure” as well, and I suggested some of the same names on your list. Like the adorable [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I actually read an article about how men are about two decades behind when it comes to naming trends and their likes and dislikes. It might have been on swistle. I think that [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] would be a lovely name with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] was my first thought. It goes well with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and isn’t too odd, has those vivid V’s , and sound really pretty.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I also like the suggestions of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as a sister for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
Some “regular” name suggestions for your SO! - [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f]), [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f].
Some frillier, ‘obscure’ names! - [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] (biased on this one!), [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Viveca[/name_f]/[name_f]Vivica[/name_f], [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f].
Wishing you all the best in your naming journey.
Since he’s looking for “regular” names, I suggest you present your list to him with nickname suggestions that are more “regular.”
For example, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] would be presented with the nickname [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]. He might go for a longer “obscure” name if the nickname is more common.
By the way, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] if your older daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] has been my husbands go to name in the World baby name War II. When he says obscure names, I think I know what he means. I wouldn’t describe it that way, but maybe some shorter names might sound simpler to him? Names like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
I was going to suggest [name_f]Clara[/name_f], although it may be too similar to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It’s different, but not too ‘obscure’. What about [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]? Short, sweet, and different.
I love the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] as well and it sounds great with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are other suggestions.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is lovely! For her sister, the name [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] comes to mind. Another classy and beautiful choice would be [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], which I think you said you are considering. Congratulations!
