hey y’all. I’m great. this is great.
I have a protagonist (wahoo), and have now written an extremely rough draft for the piece (a monologue for my drama exam).
whilst my priority should be learning it or editing it, my brain is very much focused on naming the side characters. the protagonists story is very much centred around her relationships with others, so whilst they’re quite minor, it means a lot to me that they be well developed in their own regards, especially since this allows me to write about my use of stanislavskian techniques in building a rich world and a deep understanding of every figure in my character’s life in order to better embody her because I need to do a writeup for the development of the monologue.
the protagonist is mabel eve calloway, an outgoing and wealthy party girl who always has people around her, because she can’t really stand to be alone. I’ve given her a friendship group of five girls (including her) and a boy.
I’d like to give the names a sort of ‘fancy’ vibe, but mix them with some more common, ‘normal’ names, so that it still feels real-life.
in total I need:
one brother for mabel eve. he’s younger, but not by a lot, and he’s cool, but mostly does his own thing. he and mabel get along, but they aren’t close. I haven’t really given him a personality yet oops.
five friends. I think one of them is going to be cleo or clio, though I’m open to suggestions for alternatives in that vibe. I’d also like to give her two middle names even though they will. not be mentioned. she’s the only one I really elaborate on in the monologue, and she and mabel spend a lot of time together, but don’t have any particular emotional connection. she’s probably a little shallower, and gives off kind of judgy vibes, but is still fun to be around, and is never actually mean. she likes rollerskating and obscure music.
for her male friend, I’m leaning pretty strongly towards milo, but I also really like that for her brother so ??. he does not have much a personality yet either, but I’m leaning towards the idea that he just kind of. vibes. he probably has the closest emotional connection to mabel (although none of them are especially close which is lowkey the entire point of the monologue), and doesn’t talk much, but he’s cool, and nice to spend time with. he probably dresses well.
she has three other female friends, and I’d like at least one of them to have a popular, familiar name. I was considering anna or poppy for this, but would very much like to hear more opinions! another of them should have a slightly more elaborate ‘rich girl’ name. I’d thought of laetitia, but I’m not sure it’ right yet. I can’t use beatrix or isadora. she also has another friend. I have given literally no thought to this other friend. we’ll figure something out.
she also needs one ex-boyfriend. they’re now amicable, and she feels like the breakup should have affected her more than it did. I’m not giving him a super complex character because I’m honestly not convinced that mabel knows him that well either.
sorry for the slight novel - I’m delighted to see what you think !!
