What do you think of [name]Conal[/name]? [name]Connal[/name]? Connall?
My grandpa has an unflattering name. His first name is [name]Willard[/name]. I personally love [name]Willard[/name], but DH can’t get past the “rat man” association. His middle name is also the name of an annoying family friend who would tell the world, including the child that we named the child after him (haha no.) Grandpa’s last name was McConnall. McConnall all together is too long, and I would not like anyone calling him “[name]Mac[/name]”
[name]One[/name] baby book I have says [name]Conal[/name]/[name]Connal[/name] means Strong. Here it says it means Strong as a wolf. So it has a nice meaning.
The combo would be [name]Conal[/name] [name]Ray[/name] [name]Barren[/name] ([name]Barren[/name] sounds just like our last name, but we spell it different)
No, I don’t think it needs 2 n’s at all, that makes it look really odd to me because I’m used [name]Conal[/name]. To be honest Cone-al wouldn’t make any sense as a name surely? Where’s [name]Con[/name]-al sounds gorgeous, really like thi name.
[name]Conal[/name] [name]Ray[/name] [name]Barren[/name] sounds really good to me!
[name]Connal[/name] doesn’t look like so if you did change the spelling I think Connall looks balanced but still doesn’t beat [name]Conal[/name].
I think keeping the spelling the same as it is spelled in your grandfather’s surname would both dispose any pronunciation issues and make more of an obvious tie to your grandfather.
I love the name but kinda hate the spelling. It looks made up to me. I agree with PP that spelling it Connall would be much preferable. I love it spelled Connall/[name]Connell[/name] - cute, preppy, strong!
I also pronounce [name]Conal[/name] as Cone-al, since it’s to honor a family member I would spell it Connall. I also find that spelling to have a much more intuitive pronunciation.
I like Connall [name]Ray[/name] [name]Barren[/name]. It sounds distinguished and I really like the family connection.
[name]Conal[/name] seems to short to me… and I wasn’t sure how to pronounce it either, as pp mentioned. BUT it’s a great name with a good strong meaning -both “strong wolf” and the tie to your grandfather. Other naming sites seem to spell it [name]Connell[/name] or [name]Conall[/name] but never [name]Conal[/name]. It would make sense to me to use one of these spellings or keep the spelling the same as your grandfather’s last name.
