We have chosen the name [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] for our second son, due in a month. I love the name and love the nickname [name_m]Hughie[/name_m] too. My one concern is that it isn’t the easiest name to roll off the tongue for me. My husband is Irish and has no problem, but it feels a little hard for me to pronounce. Is this something I will get used to once I start saying it outloud more? Is this an issue for anyone else when saying the name [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this concern of mine is worth considering choosing a different name? I am very happy with the name in all other ways. Thanks for weighing in on this issue for me!
I don’t find it hard to say at all.
I see what you mean; I actually bumped [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] off of my short list partly because of how hard I found his name to pronounce, even though I loved it in theory. But, that happens with a few names for me, just because I’m inconvenient :). I certainly think you’ll get used to saying it, though.
I think you’ll get used to it just fine
I think it’s easy, although it is definitely a concern if you can’t pronounce it. Give it a shot, say it a few times and see if anything changes. It is a very minor issue.
Personally, I find it easy to say. It is a simple name, so I’m sure you would get used to how to sounds. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name choice!
I have no issues at all pronouncing [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], but I do have issues pronouncing a names that start with Au sometimes, so I get it. I do think it means you can’t use it though.
I know exactly what you mean! I love the name [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], but struggle a bit when saying it out loud. I bet you’d get used to it quickly though.
I don’t struggle saying it, but if you can’t say it, you might want to reconsider.
I think you’ll get used to it.
Thank you all for the input!
I find it quite easy to say already, but I think it’s something you’ll get used to. I used to really struggle with the word cinnamon, but then I used it a lot in baking and now it’s fine (next challenge: apothecaries). So I think the more you use it the easier it will get, I think.
I don’t find it hard to say. Keep saying it out loud. If you still can’t pronounce it by the time he’s born, it might be best to consider a different name.
I agree…love the name, keep practicing, and if you can’t pronounce it by the time he is born, I would go with another name
