Concerns about Griffin?

I’ve liked the name [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] for a long time. To show my age, I first started liking it when there was a character on Party of Five.
I also really like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and liked the idea of it being the nickname for [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]. Several months ago, I dropped [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and just left it as [name_u]Finn[/name_u] because I was afraid of its growing trendiness. On top of that, my husband is a big Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] fan so he says everyone will just think of that.

So, do I need to just give it up or is [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] worth fighting for?

I love [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]! So handsome, and the only one I’ve ever met is in college now. I would never associate it with family guy, but then again I’ve never seen the show. It feels very English, like [name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] (have in a combo with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Dante[/name_m]). It’s one of my very favorite names. I used it for the name of a villain in my very first book I ever wrote and he is my all time favorite person I’ve ever wrote. It’s a handsome, cool, mature, with the nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] which makes it sort of now.

I only have ever met one and he is like 10 now. I don’t think anyone will think of Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] at all. It’s got mythology before people think of FG. Fight for it! It’s so much better than [name_u]Finn[/name_u] on it’s own, in my opinion.

If you love it, it’s worth fighting for. I’m a huge Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] fan and I had to scratch my head for a second before I realized what you were talking about (wouldn’t have made the connection myself). I knew a guy in college named [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and I know two boys under eight with the name (not sure if they spell it [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] or [name_m]Gryphon[/name_m]). Either way, I don’t think it’s ever going to be HUGELY popular. It’s trendy in a kind of upwardly mobile hipster way.

I love [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]. I like G names, and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is probably the most easy-going of my favourite G’s. Much less stridently offbeat than [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] or [name_m]Gilead[/name_m] or [name_m]Gershon[/name_m], for example, which I like but are “weird” to many.

I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is actually likelier to hit “trend” status than [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]. Sooo many little Finns around here, at least. And Finlays, Finnegans, etc. It’s a nice sound though. I love [name_m]Finnian[/name_m].

I started a thread about the name [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] yesterday! It’s top of our list right now. I think it’s really interesting someone on this thread said they think it has a British feel as I live in [name_m]Britain[/name_m] and have never ever encountered anyone with the name and it’s way, way down in the lists of names here! [name_u]Finn[/name_u], on the other hand is extremely popular where I live in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and one of my concerns over the name [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is that it would be shortened to [name_m]Fin[/name_m]/[name_u]Finn[/name_u], which are so common here.

I think [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is great! It’s a family name for me and ever on my possibilities list. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] definitely works as a nn. I watch Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] and it definitely is not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear [name_m]Griffin[/name_m].

I’m not really a “fan” of Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m] but my boyfriend does make me watch it sometimes, and I would never make that connection. [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is a great name. Go for it!

I love [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]! It’s on my list as well. Keep fighting for it!

Great name!! I wouldn’t make the association with family guy and I definitely don’t think it’s too trendy. I only know one [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]. He’s 8 and I adore him. Nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is cute.
