Confessions of a Name Stealer

As my due Date approaches I feel the need to make a confession. I hate common/popular/overused Names! I hate it when someone gives their child a name that I have already heard. Frankly, I can’t even stand to order the same dish as someone else when dining out. That is to say I love individuality. However, I was first exposed to the name [name]Dorothea[/name] on this website. Thank you, Twinkle! I later found out it is my husband’s granmother’s middle name. So that is going to be the name of my 3rd child born in [name]June[/name]. [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Lenore[/name] will join her sister [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] and brother [name]August[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name]

I felt it was okay to use someone else’s name since I dont’ really know them nor do they live near me. I hope you don’t judge me. In real life I would totally frown on this behavior, but thank you Nameberry for giving my anonymity and making this name stealing acceptable in my eyes!

That’s totally not stealing! That’s what nameberry is here for, to inspire you! I can’t speak for Twinkle, but I’ll bet she’ll be flattered you love her choice so much! It would be a different story if you used the whole combo… that would be a no-no!

Your children have beautiful names! I’m jealous that you have an [name]August[/name], it was on my short short short list before my son was born!

P.S. I love the title of your thread! And I’m the same way, I never order the same thing as someone else at a restaurant, so boring!

LOL. I don’t think it is stealing… Twinkle didn’t make up the name, she just brought it to your attention. Now if you stole it from your next door neighbor, cousin or best friend then that would be a different story! I personally like names that I hear ocassionally, but not all the time. I also order the same dish as other people at resturants. Food is more important to me than looking like a copy-cat (especially when I am pregnant).

Your children have great names!

That’s totally not stealing a name. When I think of stealing a name, it would be if I was pregnant and was going to use a name my friend mentioned before. I could never do that. One of my close friends has told me she loves the name [name]Autumn[/name], and I do too… but since she mentioned it first… I would fell horrible if I used it!

I love the name [name]August[/name], very cute!

I love your kids’ names! [name]Dorothea[/name] is so pretty. I’m sure Twinkle will be flattered that you love [name]Dorothea[/name], too.
If want something at a restaurant and somebody else orders it, I order it, too. That happens at my fave restaurant La Cabanita. My daughter and I both order entomatadas, but she gets the cheese kind and I get the chicken kind.
I like to go to our fave Thai or Indain restaurant, because then we all share our food with each other.
So hopefully on Nameberry, we can share our names with each other, too.

That is completely not name stealing. Name stealing is when your sister or cousin or best friend has told you what they are going to name their child and two weeks before their child is due, you name your child that and they have to scramble last minute to figure out how they are going to adapt their monogrammed baby items. Seems far fetched, huh? [name]True[/name] story.
[name]Dorothea[/name] is a name that has been around generations. No one here owns it. You aren’t even using her combination. When my twins were born, people were suggesting all sorts of names to go with my little [name]Dorothy[/name], and some of the names they were suggesting were names that were on their favorites’ list.
But I understand what you are saying, too. I am due again in [name]December[/name], and if its a boy, we are using a name that I can’t really remember the full details of how it was suggested… and someone else used for their son. At first I thought that it was name-stealing too, because it was very unusual. But the name was brought up in a brainstorming effort which makes it fair game.

[name]Dorothea[/name] Lennore is very pretty! Good luck and congratulations!
