Confirmation name

i am thinking of taking my confirmation and, being a name nerd, have begun to search for a saints name to take on. i wasnt given a middle name at birth and my full name is [name]Angelica[/name] Tsapparelli (zap-a-rell-ee).
some of my favorite names are :
clementine
ottoline
anouk
astoria (story)
miette
fable
ostara
lilac
etta
echo
poet

Only a few of your suggestions will work as a confirmation name. I assume you are Catholic?

clementine-- this is acceptable, in honor of St [name]Clement[/name] of [name]Alexandra[/name] and multiple popes called [name]Clement[/name]
ottoline-- this is acceptable, in honor of St [name]Otto[/name] of Bamberg
anouk-- [name]Anouk[/name] is a diminutive of [name]Anne[/name], and there are many St Annes. Not sure if [name]Anouk[/name] itself would be permissable
astoria (story)-- There is a St [name]Asteria[/name] (different name, from the same root as the flower [name]Aster[/name]), but no [name]Astoria[/name], and certainly no [name]Story[/name].
miette-- this is the French word for “crumb” and is not a given name
fable-- not acceptable. The patron saint of writers is St [name]Francis[/name] de Sales, so you could select [name]Frances[/name], or [name]Francine[/name].
ostara-- this is completely unacceptable to the Catholic Church, as it’s the name of the European pre-[name]Christian[/name] fertility goddess (the source of our words oestrogen and [name]Easter[/name])
lilac-- there are two patron saints of florists, [name]Therese[/name] of Lisieux and [name]Rose[/name] of Lima
etta-- could work, in honor of St Etto
echo-- will not work, this is a personage from Greek mythology and therefore in the eyes of the Church a pagan god
poet-- obviously not a saint’s name, but the patron saint of poets are St [name]David[/name] (the psalmist) and St [name]Columba[/name], so you could choose [name]Davina[/name], [name]Columba[/name], [name]Columbia[/name] or [name]Columbine[/name]

I think I prefer [name]Clementine[/name] from your choices…I’m also wondering about criteria since I thought confirmation names were generally chosen for a saint. I could be wrong, I’m not Catholic, just kind of nerdy about reading about saints…

Ideas:
[name]Rosalia[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name]

I can’t wait to choose my confirmation name! I don’t know how strict your church is though, but we aren’t allowed any diminutives or feminizations, so I have to choose an actual saint’s name with history behind it. I love [name]Story[/name] and [name]Ottoline[/name], but really think a lot on your list are stretches. When I am older, I am going to choose [name]Hermione[/name].

More ideas…
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Augusta[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Hyacinth[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name]
Cinnia
[name]Emiliana[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Lelia[/name]
[name]Kiara[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Eugenia[/name]
[name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Maura[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Theodora[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]

Good luck!

(I’m assuming you are Catholic)

I like pp’s suggestion of [name]Asteria[/name]! I also have to echo the comment that not all of those names can work for saint names. I was recently Confirmed and I picked [name]Saint[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] of [name]Paris[/name] [name]Blade[/name] already mentioned which ones are saint names, which one aren’t and alternatives, so I’ll just list a few more options.

[name]Don[/name]'t forget that picking a saint for your Confirmation isn’t just about their name; it’s about being inspired by his/her story too! If you aren’t into any of the names of the female saints, I recommend going through the male saints as well, many of them have great names and stories as well!

I’m also Catholic. I remember having so much fun choosing my confirmation name  I would go with something very classic and simple, while the inner name nerd in you may want to go for something exuberant, I think that because its a name being chosen for religious reasons, it should be chosen with those reasons in mind.

This site may be helpful to you, its a complete list of all Catholic saints and if you click on them, they give a brief synopsis of the life of the saint. I love it.

Good luck!

I like Benidicta and [name]Phillipa[/name].
