Conflicting name style?

Hello everyone!

I’ve been cutting down my really long name list recently and have come down to a few names that I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] boys’ names ([name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m]) and my top girl name ([name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]) match, but two recurring favourites of mine, [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], just don’t fit. I was just wondering if you think it would be weird to see siblings with rather conflicting names in terms of style?

[name_m]Say[/name_m] you met three sisters named [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], would that be odd? [name_m]Even[/name_m] more so if they had brothers with names above? Or am I thinking too much?

Ugh. Sorry this is so long and confusing - having a hard time writing it all down to make it make sense.

Thanks though

Well [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] fits wonderfully, it’s [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] that has a different style. Maybe use it as a middle? You’re not thinking too much, if you’re having second thoughts that’s good! You just want what’s best for your future angels  Btw, [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] are gorgeous!

I don’t really see any of these as conflicting at all. You’re good to go.

I personally don’t worry at all about matching style within sibsets- I would rather use the names that I adore above all others, rather than stick to a particular style. I know that not everyone is like this though. I wouldn’t find a sibset of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] odd at all. I would probably just love how beautifully named they all are :).

Style wise, [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] has a lovely Scandinavian feel with the ‘t’, and I think that with siblings named [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], it wouldn’t strike me as odd at all- just incredibly gorgeous.

I actually think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] sound fabulous together! I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that any of the others were their brothers either

I think they fit well together and I don’t think the different style is too conflicting.

Okay, thank you so much! I feel a tad bit better now

I don’t care much for conflicting name styles. I just stick to whatever my favorites are. Besides [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] sound lovely together.

Agreed! If anything conflicts, it’s [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] fits in with the others just fine. And I don’t even think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] sticks out too badly. Definitely good to go! I think [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] would fit really well with this style, too, though, from your signature. And even [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], that you have put in the MN spot…

I think you should let your heart be your guide. If a name makes you happy and you adore it, then choose it. I think trying to match names between siblings is a good rule of thumb but secondary to choosing your preferred name. Besides, what seems to be a matching sibset might be a clash by another’s taste. Cheers

PS [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] & [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] are a lovely sibset and “sparkly’” together

I agree with the others. First of all, I don’t think names need to “match” except maybe in terms of either how much parents like them or how much they mean to the parents - and that’s just for the kids’ perceived fairness, not a stylistic thing. Actually, sometimes when names are super matched in style I have more trouble remembering which kid is which. And when names aren’t matchy, I feel like a bit more of the “picture” of what the parents and family are like gets filled in with each new name. I love that.
Second, I don’t see any clashing here anyway! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names, all.
