I saw the name Ames today, and love it. Then I put two and two together, and found [name_m]Eames[/name_m]. Lol, no I am confused on which spelling to go with. Is Ames just a made up variation to make it easier to pronounce, or is it like an English version? Would either spelling be okay, or is Ames silly? Would an [name_m]Eames[/name_m] have problems with telling people how to spell his name all of his life? Is the name easily recognizable?
I’m obsessing, I have fallen in love with it! Also, what sibling (brothers) would you put with an Ames/[name_m]Eames[/name_m]? Would you have different suggestions for the two spellings?
Okay! I don’t know how accurate this is, but apparently…
[name_m]Eames[/name_m]: English -[name_m]Son[/name_m] of the uncle
Ames: [name_m]French[/name_m] -[name_m]Friend[/name_m]
I would pronounce Ames as AIMS and [name_m]Eames[/name_m] as closer to EEMS, so to me they are different names.
I definitely prefer the [name_m]Eames[/name_m] spelling, but if you want to pronounce it AIMS, maybe you should go with Ames.
With Ames/[name_m]Eames[/name_m] I would go for another short British surname-name - [name_m]Brent[/name_m], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Harris[/name_m] or [name_m]Griffith[/name_m].
I am familiar with Ames as a surname, and I think either spelling could work great for a boy. I also like Ames more because of the meaning friend stated above ^^
I like the look of [name_m]Eames[/name_m] better. And like @freddiethepink - I say Ames like AYMES and [name_m]Eames[/name_m] like EEMS (and my cursory google search seemed to yield the same results). I like the EEMS pronunciation much better, too. I think it’s fun. I’m not sure what I’d use as a middle, or as a sibling name. I feel like you’d need something quite surnamey and British feeling, like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_m]Baxter[/name_m], [name_u]Walker[/name_u], etc.
Well, Ames is a college town to me. Pronounced “aims”. [name_m]Just[/name_m] guessing, but at first glance my reaction is to pronounce [name_m]Eames[/name_m] “eems”
