I am looking for some advice on middle name options. [name]Leo[/name] is probably going to be the first name to honour my mother who is deceased (based on a nickname she used to call me). In my last post I had said we were going to go with a middle name that is related to the sea/ocean to tie the new baby’s middle name to my daughter’s middle which is [name]Marie[/name] (her first name is [name]Avery[/name]). [name]Marie[/name] was used to honour my partner’s side of the family as well it was my paternal grandmother’s first name. Then we discovered it also has a connection to the sea.
The one name that we really like in terms of the water connection is [name]Kai[/name].
Other middles we are now looking at would be to honour my father who passed away many years ago. His name was Francois [name]Charles[/name] [name]Antoine[/name] D______ .
Which name do you think works the best? I realize that [name]Kai[/name] does not honour my father directly, but one of his best trips was to [name]Hawaii[/name], he talked about it for years and we do like the connecting meanings for the middle names of both children…On the other hand, using one of my father’s actual names is probably more meaningful?
i like all of your choices. If you like [name]Kai[/name] - i think that also works, as it matches the water meaning with your daughters, and is a place that was special to your father. i think that works just as well as his actual name. good luck!
also, i love [name]Leo[/name] - top contender for us we will go with [name]Leo[/name] [name]Michael[/name] - michael being a family name
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Charles[/name] gets my vote followed by [name]Leo[/name] [name]Kai[/name]. Using one of your father’s names would be more meaningful.
I agree. Using a name from a place your father loved honors the place and not him. I’m partial to [name]Charles[/name], so [name]Leo[/name] [name]Charles[/name] gets my vote. If you’re open to two middle names, I love the idea of [name]Leo[/name] Francois [name]Kai[/name].
Thanks for your responses!! [name]Mischa[/name] and southern.maple: I agree that using a name my father was given would probably be more meaningful. I guess my struggle is that I really like the name [name]Kai[/name] Although [name]Charles[/name] is not really my style, it’s a classic name, and would have great meaning for my son (hopefully). [name]Kai[/name] is definitely more of a stretch (meaning-wise), but to me it’s a fun, spunky name. Anyways, 3 months to go, so there’s still time
@ namenerdz: [name]Leo[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is very cute!
I like [name]Leo[/name] Francois best. Did your father spell it [name]Fran[/name]çois or without the ç? And how are you pronouncing [name]Leo[/name]? I think LEH-o Francois sounds great. [name]LEE[/name]-o Francois is a little bit awkward, though.
With [name]LEE[/name]-o, I like [name]Charles[/name] a lot.
[name]Hi[/name] lucialucentum, His name was spelled with the cedilla (if memory serves me correctly that is what the symbol under the c is called??) making it a soft sounding c.
You make an excellent point regarding the pronunciation of the name [name]Leo[/name]. We will pronounce it [name]Lee[/name]-o, partly because my first name is french and it was always a struggle having people pronounce it correctly. I gave up from a younger age and went by the english version, and only recently I began insisting that people pronounce it the way it was meant to be pronounced. My side of the family would likely say Leh-o. The last name is also french but I see where you are coming from. Thanks!
